I’d say the Dreamcast was the biggest (as in most noteworthy) failure. Again both the Dreamcast and the Jaguar (and the Saturn for that mater) weren’t failures because they had inherently bad hardware design, hence they were not ‘the worst consoles’. Marketing, timing and perception would se...

Ok. - Fare Comments... 1) At the time, yes I agree it was relevant. I was meaning it isn’t relevant to a ‘look back at the best games’ type of article. I would say the same if I were talking about this type of article for the Amiga (I like my Amiga by the way ;) ) 2) That’s fine, everybody s...

Re:

There was a feature a few issues back that showcased this, along with some neat pictures of Space War and associated mainframe. I don't have the issues at hand, so I don't know which one it was, but if you can get hold of it, it's worth reading. Yes, it was quite good. I was more getting at general...

Re:

PC gaming was so rubbish back then... ...Moan moan moan (etc). Well I have an Amiga (A600) and don’t necessarily agree with all your post, but that isn’t really the point! It’s not a competition. Retro shouldn’t be a ‘this system verses that system’ playground battle anymore. Everyone c...

The problem with posting a thread with a title like ’ WORST consoles ever’ is that people have different ideas of what this means. IMO some of the consoles mentioned here were reasonable to good machines that just flopped due to factors other than the actual hardware. I would put the Atari Jagua...

Not the article I remember but it was on similar lines to this: Unfortunately, Apple never put the promised marketing effort into Alice. They were in a quandary because the market didn't understand the graphical user interface as a productivity enhancement yet; graphics meant games, so the Mac had t...

I’ll try to find the article I remember reading in which somebody from apple said: ‘there was a decision made not to encourage games development for the Mac as apple already had a ‘games’ platform around at the time’. Obviously this is paraphrasing from memory, as I can’t remember the ex...

Re:

What helped the PC at the time of Doom and more specifically Doom 2 was that the Amiga was on it's last legs and if you didn't want a games console then your hand was forced into buying a PC (awaits Mac zealots to start shouting about bias). Well before they start it was Apple themselves that were ...

Weeell… the magazine is called ‘Retro Gamer’ right and not ‘Retro (Home Computer Gamer), right; sooooo…. (Can you tell where I’m going with this yet?) … how about some more article on other ‘retro’ gaming platforms, e.g. JAMMA stuff: boards and cabinets, the best games. Also Laserd...

Well, actually being a little more serious here you could do with a little more early PC coverage (XT and 286/386). I think this was an interesting time for the PC as it wasn’t yet fully recognised as a ‘gaming platform’ but still has some good and some truly awful conversions from 8 and 16Bit...

Re:

Its NOT simply about making money. Of course it is. Form the employers point of view, if they don't keep maing money the business goes under, simple as that. Yes, but… It helps make money if your workforce is fairly happy, as they are more willing to ‘go the extra mile…’ I agree that I donâ...
