Re: Quintessential Games

1. Platformer - Lode runner, without this I don't know if the platform game as we saw it would even have existed. (I want to say Manic Miner, but it really isn't on a world level) 2. Shoot 'em up - Space Invaders, a no brainier, it was the game that brought the idea a SHMUPS into the public consciou...

Re: Your top 10 8-bit games that are still fun today.

Manic Miner (Spectrum, there's just something about this game that makes it timeless) Boulder Dash (Atari, or C64, a classic that is timelessly playable) Bomb Jack (Arcade Machine, still brilliant) Heavy on the Magick (Spectrum, one of the best text/graphics adventure hybrids) The Pawn (Atari 8Bit, ...

Re: First games you played on each system

Pretty sure it was 'Blitz' on the VIC 20, and possibly 'The Lone Raider' on the Atari 800XL. Apart from that, iv'e no idea! Maybe 'Space Invaders Infinity Gene' on the PS3... maybe!?!? Oh, one I just remembered, 'Chuckie Egg' on the BBC, I remember cos I played this at college, years before I acquir...

Goat simulator, Life is Strange, and The Stanley Parable.

Are they retro yet?

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

I finally got around to playing 'Life is Strange,' and just completed episode one, had them on Steam for ages.
It's actually better than I thought it would be.

Sentinel, maybe?
It was 3rd person, it was 3D and you did have free movement.

Re: From The Forum issue 172 - ZX Spectrum Anniversary

Mostly just emulation on the PC since I got rid of my specy+

Although I did just obtain an Amstrad E-mailer for 99p
Don't know if that is hack-able to run specy games without the service :D

Re: Games you have loose that you need boxes and manuals for

I have the original big box 3.5" version of Monky Island, unfortunately I've lost the code wheel!

On the other hand I do have the original PC box and instructions for elite, but have lost the 5.25" game floppy!

Re: EBAY - would you charge for your time when posting

People selling on ebay know that ebay take a percentage, that's how they survive! I believe P&P should be exactly that, and anybody taking more is simply exploiting the buyer. It is not fair to pass on ebays cut to through postage. This is a cost the seller accepts by using ebays services, which the...

Re: Lets talk about vinyl

Hmm. Like my games 'collection' my vinyl collection is more of a hoard, most having been purchased when they were new or acquired from relatives. As for what I actually have, it is fairly broad if relatively modist in size. I have all the Yelo albums up to the early to mid nineties, I have most of t...

I missed this, and it was within driving distance as well. :(

Will there be another?
Maybe I can bring my Vectrex, along with my; hopefully by then, finished; homebrew stuff - and all the original games, obviously. :)

Re: What is your approximate ratio of playing modern/retro g

If you include remakes/reboots as retro then its about 95% in favour of retro. I'm probably much about the same, if you include retro-style games. I honestly don't know what the newest game I have is, but it is probably a retro type indie. The newest non indie games I have are probably deamon souls...

Re: Retro PC gaming

I've sold off a lot of old PC bits through ebay in the past but still have a lot of old cards and memory lying around in the loft. I do try to make some use of my old machines, and only relatively recently threw out a 386 and 486 PC. I had an Amstrad 1512, complete with green screen, for years befor...

Re: What is your approximate ratio of playing modern/retro g

It depends what you are calling retro. I have no current generation consoles. I have a ps3 and 360, but I don't play the 360 as it broke, I play the ps3 les than everything else combined, but I'm not sure where a lot of the PC games would fit. And quite a few of them are relatively new out but retro...
