Re: Sony announces Playstation 1 Classic

I know some people will disagree, and that's fine, but to me a PlayStation (I assume this is a PlayStation emulator and not specifically a PS1 emulator  ) is just an old system and still not a 'Retro' system. I suppose it just depends on your age, but I still have two original PlayStations and...

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

When you can buy a PI3 for a few quid, this looks stupidly expensive
And I know where I am with a PI and emulators.

Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?

I only ever had cassettes or cartridges as an option until I got a 5.25" floppy drive for my Atari 800XL. Then it was floppies all the way. And then my Amstrad 1512 wouldn't take tapes anyway :D Actually, that's not strictly true. I also had a ZX Interface One and a Microdrive for a while. Although ...

Re: The first games you completed.

The first thing I really remember completing was Ultima IV: Quest of the Avitar, on an Amstrad 1512, with a green-screen monitor, the next was Space Rogue, on the same machine. The first games ever would probably be early things that were meant to repeat like Smurf on the Atari VCS, GORF on the VIC-...

Re: Which Dreamcast?

For vertical scrolling shooters I'd strongly recommend getting a VGA adaptor and an old PC monitor that flips to portrait mode, along with a decent set of speakers. The actual DC you get isn't all that important, for the reasons already given, although it is quite easy to change the regon. All you n...

Re: Change one thing?

I'd like to change the VIC 20 to come with a bitmaped graphics mode as standard, which would probably mean more memory as well.

Re: If not the "Big 3" 8-bits then who?

Well, as well as a Spectrum+ and a VIC 20, I also had a ZX 81and an Atari 800XL back in the day. I also got to try a Dragon 32, and C16, back when they were still relevant and supported. A few years later I acquired a BBC from work, so I would have liked to have tryed an MXS.

Re: Quintessential Games

quintessential adjective: representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class. It would be interesting to see the difference between peoples 'Quintessential' list compared to their favourites file. I know mine wouldn't be the same, as a lot of the quintessential (MIO) games from ...

What are your top 5 Doom-Like or Clone games?

No I don't mean FPS games, that came much later. Even the name 'First Person Shooter' wasn't coined when doom came out. I mean games that were directly 'inspired' by doom, like Heretic, Star Wars Dark Forces, or Rise of the Triad. My top 5 would be: 1) Hexen 2) Marathon 3) Heretic 4) Descent 5) Duke...

Re: Your fave FPS series

I went for 'other' here, but i'm not a big FPS fan in general. I said other as the only FPS game I've ever put any amount of time/effort into is Team Fortress 2.

Re: Quintessential Games

1. Platformer - Lode runner, without this I don't know if the platform game as we saw it would even have existed. (I want to say Manic Miner, but it really isn't on a world level) 2. Shoot 'em up - Space Invaders, a no brainier, it was the game that brought the idea a SHMUPS into the public consciou...

Re: Your top 10 8-bit games that are still fun today.

Manic Miner (Spectrum, there's just something about this game that makes it timeless) Boulder Dash (Atari, or C64, a classic that is timelessly playable) Bomb Jack (Arcade Machine, still brilliant) Heavy on the Magick (Spectrum, one of the best text/graphics adventure hybrids) The Pawn (Atari 8Bit, ...

Re: First games you played on each system

Pretty sure it was 'Blitz' on the VIC 20, and possibly 'The Lone Raider' on the Atari 800XL. Apart from that, iv'e no idea! Maybe 'Space Invaders Infinity Gene' on the PS3... maybe!?!? Oh, one I just remembered, 'Chuckie Egg' on the BBC, I remember cos I played this at college, years before I acquir...

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

I finally got around to playing 'Life is Strange,' and just completed episode one, had them on Steam for ages.
It's actually better than I thought it would be.
