Re: Roleplaying

I bought MERP off a guy at sixth form college - who was such a pothead I had to leave the rulebook on the flat roof outside my bedroom on a sunny day to try and air it out least my parents' suspicions be aroused by the new smell in my bedroom! System looked good but I was disappointed that it was se...

Worst TV Boy controller ever?

Image

Some 64-in-1 thing advertised in the current Argos catalogue. Reference 900/2683 for the morbidly curious, no idea what machine it is or the games.

Re: Columns (Mega Drive/Xbox360/PS3)

There's a massive difference between PAL and NTSC Columns. On the original hardware at 50Hz I can keep playing the same game until DVT sets in. The game speed maxs out at a point at which I can settle in the zone and I generally never see the game over screen having switched off in boredom long befo...

I think I paid 6 Euro for my PS2 copy in a department store in Berlin probably about 4/5 years ago!

Re: Comic Book Fans

Never been a superhero fan (with the exception of Batman) I have friends who are and play the Heroclix collectable miniatures game - they all have collections of the figures that must total several thousand each and in all honestly I've heard of about 1 or 2% of them! More a fan of 2000AD. Still lov...

World of Spectrum? I know they link to scans of just about every Tipshop (and equivalent in other magazines) entry for each game.

Re: What are you currently playing?

I put NFS:Most Wanted (360) on hold for a bit and am doing the odd 5 minutes of this, 5 minutes of that thing. Have therefore been playing SMS Fantasy Zone (emulated on XBox) which is a great version of the game. The speed and intensity has been ramped up a bit so while it's not the most authentic c...

Re: Roleplaying

Used to be a roleplayer many years back, loved WFRP and Paranoia . Was nearly always the DM. Also liked Stormbringer and Call of Cthulhu but didn't get to play those much. I have DM'd a couple of games of original "white box" Dungeons and Dragons this year using a facsimile (i.e. PDF) of the 1974 ru...

Re: Disney buys Marvel

I have heard that the new Marvel villain will be a dead megalomanic tyrant whose severed head lies in cryogenic stasis in an armoured bunker deep below California. His minions are lobbying Congress to change copyright rules in order to avoid the collapse of their business empire, the proceeds of whi...

Re: Star Wars Arcade & The Arcade Game

Star Wars (vector) on the ST is pretty good, I assume it's identical to the Amiga version. Used to play this a great deal back in the day. Only downside is that the mouse control robs it of self-centreing.

Re: Underrated Xbox games

Mashed, excellent Micro Machines clone. Didn't seem to make much of a splash upon the collective consciousness of XBox gamers possibly because it was a faithful rendition (in 3D) of an older game style.

Re: Broken Sword Bargain!

Acquired from my local Morrisons tonight. According to the ad for other Mastertronic-published budget games (Mastertronic? Good God that takes me back. I feel I ought to have bought this for the Spectrum from a newsagents somewhere in the 1980s) it looks like the RRP is only £9.99 anyway. Tried them...

Re: Broken Sword Bargain!

Simple case of downloading the cutscene packs from the ScummVM site. For some reason this just didn't work with my original CDs - perhaps because they are from a budget release of BS1 & BS2 in the same box and may be slightly different to what was expected. No matter though, will get this version a...

Re: Broken Sword Bargain!

It looks like it actually uses SCUMMVM to play the game files with too! That's good news, normally you have to jump through some hoops on SCUMMVM to get BS1 and 2 working, down to some business of the video codecs on the original not being free to redistribute IIRC. Every time I've tried it's not w...
