It's incredibly hard to narrow it down to one game per generation, but I do like a challenge so here goes:

8-Bit: Head over Heels
16-Bit: Speedball 2
32-Bit: Sega Rally
64-Bit: Goldeneye
128-Bit: Soul Calibur (F355 was way too big a challenge)

There's only one that I'd really love to play again, and that's the original 'Syndicate' by Bullfrog. Back in the day, I'd played it on the Amiga, but I bought a cd-rom of the PC version in the late 90's and couldn't figure out how to play it on my windows 98 machine - I was quite a noob to pc's bac...

I was talking about Jane's ATF on the PC in the mid 90's.
There was yet another ATF I hadn't heard about? No one ever tells me anything :)

I tried playing it again a couple of years ago and sadly it didnt seem to have aged too well... You think so??. It just didn't hook me the same way as it did when I first played it, when I used to leave the Spectrum on for days to play through it. It didn't help that when I replayed it, I was passi...

It was only in the last few years I found that they were in some way part of the Ocean / Imagine group. So all in all that group made a pretty huge contribution to the 8 bit home computer scene. Is that so??. Maybe that's the reason why Ocean never went near Sega or Capcom stuff now. Please do tell...

They certainly released a lot of arcade conversions - World of Spectrum's infoseek has 174 games published by US Gold. While a fair share of them were poop, they did make some good ones every now and then, like Spy Hunter, 720Deg, Outrun and Road Blasters and Tapper. It was only in the last few year...

Only got a Spectrum in '86 so with a slight bias to later games:

Head Over Heels
Target Renegade
Elite
Lords of Chaos
Where Time Stood Still

I was also a big fan of this one on the Spectrum. It was a good mix of arcade shooter, backed with some semblance of strategy and a pretense of flight simulation. I tried playing it again a couple of years ago and sadly it didnt seem to have aged too well. I never tried ATF II, was that released for...

It's a really good question and one that I was discussing at work a few days ago. My short answer: a) game producing is big business. b) Hardware advances fast. c) Maybe we're getting too old for this stuff. I agree with the comments about products that have endless sequels, which are often just reh...

#1 was my 48k spectrum on the day I got it. I made the mistake of plugging in the kempston interface while the machine was switched on - which I later found out was a surefire way of killing the machine. Took about a month to get it repaired / replaced by Dixons. Since then I've been pretty lucky wi...

PS1 Wipeout 2097 for me, it had the most fluid feel of the series (maybe due to the excellent track design). It had the best music of the series, and its support of the much underused link cable made it an even more special PS1 title.

I can't think of many games that I'm ashamed to admit to loving . I'll never admit to playing The Sims though - I always say that it's installed (taking up a whole partition along with most of the expansion and feature packs and custom objects) in case my girlfriend wants to play it

While Elite is definitely the big one, a couple of early ones I remember fondly were Codename MAT and Starglider on the Spectrum. Later there was Wing Commander on the Amiga. But most recently I've tried Freelancer which was ok, but I've really enjoyed the X series - X2: The Threat and X3: Reunion, ...

Another game I like but had forgotten about completely. It was a good game, but pretty tough. After a lot of hard work, I was really thrilled to make it to the end of the 4th level, only for the game to crash. After a few attempts, at starting from scratch, it turned out my pirated copy had a bug ma...

Final Fight is the best arcade game (and IMO best ever). Best in character design, graphics, gameplay. You can still come back to it now and enjoy it. (Final Fight drinking game is good too!) I think Vendetta is most underrated, it has so many little background interractions and character animations...
