The original Playstation. I'd not done so much gaming in the couple of years before I got it, and I remember being absolutely stunned when I unboxed it and loaded up Tekken 1 for the first time. It was also the first controller that just seemed to be a perfect fit for me, I never quite liked the SNE...

Dammit, I just found out that XBox live arcade has Double Dragon with online co-op  - am considering returning my shiny new PS3.

Has no one suggested Bionic Commando as a worthy platformer? I nominated it for the League a while back, based on the excellent home conversions I remembered playing. The arcade version is horrible. A rare instance of the home version offering a far superior gaming experience. Really, I remember po...

Pre-online gaming it was all i could think about. I remember telling my friends how amazing it would have been to play against people from all over the world, and now i can and love it. I was just the same, as a student I used to play a lot of vs matches and LAN games, unfortunately as me and my fr...

I don't know why I'm bothering to post since it'll probably be lost in the flame fight, but here goes... I'd say one of Outrun or Sega Rally should make the list (maybe even both). IMO Daytona was technically good, but just not as much fun. And konami's vendetta. My own list would be beatemup heavy,...

God Hand was a pretty underrated PS2 game. (an entertaining but tricky beatemup)
You should try at least one of the Dynasty Warriors series - probably #5.
And already mentioned were Shadow of Rome and Shadow of the Colossus.

Odin Sphere looked pretty cool, I'll have to try getting that myself.

For some reason, the characters in my avatar are among the most memorable from the Spectrum, but I think that's just because Target Renegade was one of my favorite games. From my adolescent retrogaming I definitely remember thinking that the punk girls from Final Fight were very, very foxy. So I was...

The last as in newest arcade game, well it was a couple of years back, and I was at a shopping center in England with the gf. I can't remember what it was called but it was one where you raced a Mini around some city tracks, the graphics were lovely and shiney, but IIRC it cost over a quid and I was...

While I'd like to make a great Elite type of game, I don't think I could even dream of making one as good as egosoft's X series - well maybe I'd tack on some planetary landings and exploration but it'd still basically be X3. What I would really love to do is make a great scrolling beatemup, using so...

As mentioned already, I think Soul Edge / Blade / Calibur's Voldo is probably the out and out winner for strangest, creepiest mofo in a vs fighter. From scrolling beatemups, anyone play Vendetta by Konami - the Freddie Mercury lookalikes in biker gear whose only form of attack was to grab you and hu...

Only gripes here, im afraid. The dc promised a lot for online play and delivered very little. One that i remember was sega's own release title dynamite cop 2 (die hard arcade 2) where part of the manual was devoted to extra, playable characters available from sega's own download site. Unfortunately ...

I always thought 'Penetrator' for the Spectrum had a certain fnar fnar value :)

For a snappy title, how about Sega's 'Let's Make a J. League Pro Soccer Club' ?

This is a really interesting read, it almost makes me feel normal :) I'm also a business / software bloke who's always been into games and has always wondered about that alternate life where I'd chosen to specialise in IT at an earlier age, instead of thinking that mathematicians get all the hot gir...

Using dosbox and d-fend reloaded, I'm playing Syndicate again for the first time in about 15 years! Even after that time, the first 2 levels are almost worryingly familiar to me - looking forward to getting the minigun researched :)
