Mame Advice please

Hi, Okay, so today I did a little Mame project. The idea was to download a very, very large MAME Rom Set from the Archive.org website. The zip file was 58GB, it took nearly two hours to download, not bad going for its size. I downloaded and installed Lauchbox, and a Mame program called MameUI64 vers...

The Mighty Micro

Hi, While looking at old videos regarding computers and the coming of the low cost microprocessors that emerged in the 1970's I came across an old six part TV series called 'The Mighty Micro' presented by the late computer scientist Christopher Evans. In this program DR Evans talks about what he pre...

Re: Buying CD's

I found a load, well maybe not a 'load', but quite a few music CD's in a drawer under my bed a few months ago. Not sure what I'm gonna do with them, heck, I don't even own a CD-player anymore! It's still kind of sad to see the format die off though, and I think it will eventually. And of course the ...

Re: How Far Behind in the Magazine Issues Are You?

Hi Guys,

First time back on this site for a few years. I buy the mag from time to time but I must be missing at least 12 issues now.

Re: Doom wasn't 3D!

Funny how I always thought the Doom and Doom II were '3D' for all these years, and not until now have I found that they actually weren't. I actually thought it was using 3D polygons for the map layout, but it was all an illusion. Still, very clever programming technique. I suppose Doom could have be...

Doom wasn't 3D!

This might be a bit late and some of you probably know this already, but Doom wasn't 3D. No, it was actually a 2D game, the 3D was just an illusion. Wolfenstien 3D wasn't 3D either nor was Duke Nukem 3D. The inability to look up and down wasn't a limitation of the engine's of these games, it was of ...

Re: Fallout 4

Took me a while on my first go, but the simulation can be done in around 15 mins or less once you know how to do it. It's all quite logical.

Retro Gaming YouTube channels

Over the past few months I've been really hooked on Retro Gaming channels in YouTube. And many of these guys create really professional video's too. My current favourites at the moment are: Nostalgia Nerd - https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos The 8-Bit guy - https://www.youtube.com/user...

Re: Retro PC gaming

Doom 3 totally knackered my graphics card. I think I had one of them new graphics cards from ATI, can't remember the model number but I do remember I paid like £300 for it. I've never paid that much for a graphics card since. Not sure what happened, but it used to overheat and it was next to useless...

Re: Help me play Crus'in USA

Here's the issue, I used to have a working ROM set, now I don't. And the ROM set I did have doesn't work in my current MAME application. Also, it's been ages since I tried it before, probably 2012-2013. Back then the emulation wasn't perfect, the sound would skip. The video's on YouTube I've seen of...

Help me play Crus'in USA

Hi, Right I've been wanting to play this Arcade version for a while via emulation with little success. I'm either using the wrong version of MAME or I haven't got all the correct ROM files. Can anyone point me in the right direction. You can PM if you like with any links. Also interested in Crus'in ...

Re: Would you rather...

It's a both from me too. I started gaming in 84 on C64. Progressed to a Mega Drive in 91 and then an Amiga in 94. Went into PC gaming in 96 combined with a PlayStation in 98. I was a PC only gamer until 2005 when I bought an original Xbox. Since then I've been both a Computer and console gamer. I've...

Re: PS4 hard drive upgrade problems

Fixed

Silly me. I was downloading the 'Update' when it should have been the System Firmware download. Got it sorted now. A nice 2TB hard drive in there. Now I've got an issue with a slow download of Battlefield 4 aaagh!

PS4 hard drive upgrade problems

Hi, Right, I tried to upgrade my PS4 hard drive, it was an epic failure. The PlayStation Support guy says there must be a fault with my console and I either need to send it in for repair, or see if the shop will exchange it. The console was purchased in Game (UK). Here is what I did and tried to do....
