Re: Sega Fog gaming

I suppose this could be pretty neat if you're a Japanese arcade nut stuck at home because of COVID-19, and it's streaming from native hardware rather than emulation so a bit of a leg-up over the average cloud service. Still, stripped of the flashy cabs and the social aspect of Japanese arcades, I'd ...

Re: Stunning new Amstrad CPC racing game

Even with the benefit of hindsight, it's hard to figure out whether the CPC was blessed or curse by its similarities to the Spectrum. On the one hand, it would never have had as many ports as it got if it hadn't been possible to just copy code over and tweak the graphics routines a bit. On the other...

Re: Game Gear Micro Coming

The reason you don't see much work on hacked handhelds these days is that there are open platforms far easier to develop for. Get a Windows or Android handheld if you want something close to the state of the art. For example, here's a video of the forthcoming GPD Win Max running some PS2 games at 60...

Re: Game Gear Micro Coming

Screen size is confirmed at 1.15 inches / 3cm. Still, you can buy a pack of all four and you get one of those screen magnifiers thrown in for an authentically awful experience.

Re: Panzer Dragoon Remake review.

Yeah, you should never ever review games based on the promises of the developers.

Still, the post-release patch is such a common event these days that it might be worth re-visiting selected games when they include significant improvements.

Re: Game Gear Micro Coming

Yeah, it's certainly micro enough but that screen has to be barely an inch across and the controls surely aren't going to be too comfortable.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

There are a couple of issues I've got with downloads on the Switch. Firstly, if you've got more than one console - and a lot of us are now running a Lite for handheld use alongside a regular Switch as a home console - games won't start on the second Switch unless an online check is made. That means ...

Re: Advice on what Pi to buy

That's not quite true. The hardware is pretty well understood and not that much more complex to emulate than the PS1 at base level. It's just that the GPU works quite differently to that of a modern one and there's a trade-off between speed and accurate rendering. The net result is that if you want ...

We've already discussed it here:

I don't think there's been any more info yet, but they took about four years to get Pinball Dreams from first demo to release so you probably shouldn't be waiting up for this to drop any time soon.

Re: Coronavirus

The analogy with smoking is a really bad one though. Second hand smoke is obviously dangerous, but it's also visible and cannot be re-transmitted throughout a community. That wasn't the point I was making. If a person smokes, they have decided they don't care about their respiratory health and the ...

Re: Coronavirus

What is essential anyway? The whole lockdown is a farce. Perhaps instead of saying "take care" to each other , we ought to try "take responsibility". If you don't feel confident enough to mingle with the masses, then don't. Consider your own behaviour first instead of judging others and how they co...

Re: Coronavirus

In deference to the forum rules I won't talk about Cummings. Still, Wayne Rooney was caught breaking the lockdown laws a few weeks ago, and I'm terribly disappointed in him. As someone the public looks up to he should be setting a far better example. Indeed, if many people were to see his behaviour ...

Re: Coronavirus

Matt_B, it's not just about the elderly. I am one of nearly TWO MILLION people below 70 who are having to "shield" due to medication or pre-existing conditions. That means I cannot go out and my stepdaughter is being cared for by relatives while my wife remains in hospital recovering from major sur...

Re: Coronavirus

Oh, and just to be clear, the scientific advice to lock down was never predicated on the assumption that this was going to be an especially deadly disease to those who contracted it. Estimates of the lethality have been around the 1% mark since February, with it going down to 0.2% for healthy adults...

Re: Coronavirus

Without wishing to get into the politics of it, the reason why the UK is locked down at the moment is pretty much because telling over-70s to self-isolate while everyone else carried on as normal wasn't working, and was just allowing the virus to propagate exponentially. And all while countries who'...
