Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

What you describe is basically the same as the download code in a box model but with the addition of a cartridge that isn't really needed but will cost the publisher a significant amount to include. I can't see anyone going with it. I suppose you do get something similar with PC games that come on a...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

I'm pretty sure Tetris 99 was cheaper digitally. :) Actually, that’s not true. It cost me £17.99 and came with 12 months Nintendo online membership (which costs £17.99 on it’s own anyway) and the game also comes with a bonus full offline mode. So better value overall! Free is still cheaper though, ...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

At base AAA is just a credit rating. Something that's a low-risk investment that you can throw a ton into with a high probability of a good return and little expectation that it's going to lose money. It's pretty obvious that Animal Crossing gets as wide open a setting on the money tap as anything e...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Just to give a little more context to my point... for physical games I'm only talking about AAA titles, and specifically only first party Nintendo titles. I purchase all third party titles on the PS4 or XONE as they are superior 99.9% of time. The portable argument doesn't work either - I can use m...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Digital downloads are perfect for indie and retro titles, but for AAA titles I'll always go cartridge. Why? Prices are usually much cheaper (especially if you shop around) You get something collectable and tangible in your hand They have resale value No long download times (obviously except for pat...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Downloads are just massively more convenient. Not only do you not have to swap cartridges but you can take your entire collection with you wherever you go, and it gets especially handy should you get a second Switch in the household as you can download your entire library to both of them. You also g...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

got my Switch on my birthday on Saturday and really digging into all that I can do with it. Aside from the lack of streaming bar YouTube, I'm really impressed with how they handled everything. Aside from that though, I'm shocked at the price of the games, although I this is the first time I've had ...

Re: What grinds your gears ?

Sydney had a 48C day earlier in the year. It wasn't pleasant.

Still, at least most of our heatwaves are hot and dry ones because they come from the desert interior. Hot and humid weather starts to feel uncomfortable at much lower temperatures.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Fair enough, but for me, A seems a logical label to put on the 'main' button to be used, which would be the bottom one in the typical cross layout. MS are good at interfaces, they picked up on that and corrected Ninendo's mistake. You think the people who gave us Aero and Metro are good at interfac...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Nintendo being first doesn't make them right. They even confirmed this with the Gamecube controller, putting the biggest, most used (A) button in the middle of the others, with other buttons left, right and above it. I think you're missing the point, so I'll just link you to this article that expla...

It's definitely Laser Squad.
From the palette, I'd guess at the Amstrad CPC version.
Correct! Your go...
Thanks.

Hopefully this won't be too tricky to work out:

This one should be fairly easy, but can you work out the platform?

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Button mapping is a good solution, but I'd still think that Nintendo got there first with the ABXY layout on the SNES and it's Microsoft who are doing it wrong. Sony at least had the grace to name enough of their buttons differently so developers have to make a conscious choice to change the layout ...

Re: Coronavirus

No, more tests doesn't automatically mean more cases. For instance, Australia tested a lot - far more than most countries in Europe or the Americas - back in February and early March, but still topped out at only around 7000 cases until very recently when the second wave started here. Indeed, I'd th...
