Re: Nintendo - DLC, Mobile & Microtransactions

Yeah, there are a whole host of different marketing ploys at work. They get Nintendo's brand out beyond the bubble of console gaming, the gimped gameplay will pipeline those looking for a richer experience to the Switch, and if you just want to blow a fortune on gacha they'll take your money. I'd ho...

Re: Nintendo - DLC, Mobile & Microtransactions

I've often wondered how much you'd have to pay to unlock all the content in Fire Emblem Heroes. A quick check shows that £64.99 will net you 143 orbs. Assuming 4 orbs on average per summon and an 8% chance of getting a 5* hero, that'll net you less than 3 of them on average. There are 428 heroes in ...

Re: Ebay is flooded with repros. Can anything be done?

You could just buy them all with PayPal and file a dispute for all the ones that turn out to be fakes.

I've done that a couple of times, getting a full refund in both cases, at least. I'm not sure how it would go if I did it for several hundred though.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

There's also a PC version of the original HOTD game. It has similar issues to the Saturn port apparently, was only ever released on CD, and you'd probably need Windows 98 to run it. I'm not sure how they managed to lose the source either, as it's not like it was made in the era where backups had to ...

Re: Nintendo - DLC, Mobile & Microtransactions

Yep. Not to put too fine a point on it, Nintendo's console games rock and their mobile games suck. There are a few exceptions both ways. They've got a highly experimental streak that puts out the likes of 1-2 Switch and Labo from time to time, and the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile games are...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

The IR camera on the right Joycon is at least as good as a Wiimote for pointer control in TV mode. Not sure about handheld though; maybe they can offer Typing of the Dead via the touchscreen?

Re: What are you currently playing?

No. There's nothing like that. You can share your created dungeons with a friend via Amiibos, but that's as far as it goes.

Having someone else around to talk through the puzzles is always good though.

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I picked up Links Awakening last week too.

It's very Nintendo to re-release a 26 year old game with virtually no new content worth mentioning - bar the obvious graphical makeover - at full price, and still get rave reviews for it.

Re: Is the forum in decline?

It is a fact that The Witcher 3 drew criticism for the lack of racial diversity. My mistake to say "all white" if that's what you're referring to as that's not literally the case, but I wasn't inferring some deliberate and specific "whites only" political stance of the developers, more the absence ...

Re: Is the forum in decline?

I addressed The Witcher specifically, in order to set the record straight, as some people have been attributing views to the developers that they don't actually hold. More generally, that the solitary example offered has little basis in fact rather undermines the argument it's supposed to back up. I...

Re: The most disappointed you've ever been in a release

good point, if limitation was the reason, and that was the best they could do, so be it. I guess its a personal thing, if I put something subpar out in my mind, I wouldn't be able to sleep! I'd sell houses (even those I didn't own) to raise capital to produce a better product. :D But no, I don't kn...

Re: The most disappointed you've ever been in a release

Cheers Matt, I mean I am glad there is the ability to 'remedy' the c64 mini but that's my point, why don't they do it in the first place, why not make a truly great joystick - its not like they don't have the ability, and surely the passion shouldn't be waning to undertake such a project in the fir...

Re: The most disappointed you've ever been in a release

Yeah, the bundled controller with the C64 Mini was a bit of a bust, but luckily it's got off the shelf support for a lot of alternates. Have a look on here, as you may already have something suitable to give it a new lease of life. https://gurce.net/c64mini/hardware_compatibility_lists As for the PS...

Re: Is the forum in decline?

For example, condoning an act of a developer considered by some to be politically incorrect, such as The Witcher featuring all white characters to reflect it's setting, may risk being considered an example of "racist comments in any form". Even if a political or religious related comment is deemed ...
