Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

I still think both games are great, although with enough different strengths and weaknesses that I can see why people would argue for the superiority of one or the other. So far as the future of ray tracing in games goes though, I'd be a bit cautious. There's obvious potential for a massive lift whe...

Yoshis Crafted World.

It is beautiful to look at, and plays wonderfully. Another Nintendo home run.
Yeah, it's good to be reminded that the Switch is a Nintendo console once in a while. :D

Re: The Google Stadia

a bit late to the conversation but hasn't the same thing happened to the Microsoft books store. They are closing from 2nd april and no books you have 'purchased' will be available after July 2019 i get the impression that there weren't many users of the service but the principal is still the same. ...

Re: The Google Stadia

Microsoft's eBook store is to close, all users will lose every eBook they "purchased": https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-47810367 Nope, I am not going fully digital. Even if it costs more. Rather like with the death of G4WL, I'd suspect that it's mostly a case of an almost total lack of market ...

Re: The Google Stadia

I'd think that we're probably getting a bit too worried about content coming and going in the style of Netflix. That's the way it is because TV content has long been produced on a model where it's licensed for a limited period for broadcast after which it can then be sold on to someone else. It's ni...

Re: What Films/TV Have you Watched Recently?

I watched the first episode of Love, Death, Robots yesterday, it was pretty good. That needn't be any indication of the rest of the episodes though. They're based on unrelated short stories by different authors, so a bit of a mixed bag, although they've mostly got something in common in terms of a ...

Re: Mega Drive Mini

I was interested until I realized I was reading the games list for the Japanese release. For the rest of the world it looks like we're mostly getting the same old selection, with only one additional game - Castlevania: Bloodlines - confirmed so far. I doubt it's going to offer better features than t...

Re: The Google Stadia

Was on about this with a friend and I listed why I wasn't interested in great detail. He nodded, smiled and simply said, "if this streamed the next assassin's creed a month early you would be all over it". And he"s right😂 it's the games that will sell it, as ever. Bear in mind that you'd be all ove...

Re: Konami Anniversary Collections

I'd think that it's more of a Gradius collection with some makeweights than what would spring to mind when I think of Konami's arcade games.

Ah well, if you like their scrolling shooters it's an easy purchase and who's to say that there won't be further offerings on different themes?

Re: What was the final word in Lunar Lander games?

Nah, I mean the direct lineage from Lunar Lander. Not Kerbal, the line died out before then. Besides, lunar landing is just a part of it. I remember seeing Lunar Lander on Vic-20, and just about every other platform. Windows 3.1 was the last I remember seeing. I wouldn't say that the line ever died...

Re: What was the final word in Lunar Lander games?

I'd think you could say that it evolved into the realistic space simulator genre that's currently represented by games like Orbiter and Kerbal Space Programs, both of which offer highly realistic lunar landing simulations among their other offerings.

Re: The Google Stadia

I can see it becoming a significant platform for the sort of games that you've got to be on-line to play anyway, especially multiplayer shooters and MMOs. Using Google's existing infrastructure can keep the extra lag due to streaming down to a bare minimum, and possibly even reduce the overall laten...

I will get one when it is around £30, as long as I can hack it and put my own selection of games on
Yeah, at that price it genuinely is competing with a Pi 3B+. :D

Re: Where can I play the classic game Elite?

OK, thanks for the info and the links! The Frontier website lists the game Elite, but there doesn't appear to by anyway to play it on your PC. I've read about the NES version of Elite, and I wonder if it would work on one of the many NES clone consoles out today, because most of them have a NTSC-PA...
