RIP Bob Wakelin

Bob Wakelin, artist on various games, especially those Ocean arcade conversions, has passed away. I worked in the same building as Bob years ago, and knew a lot of people who were close friends. You will be very familiar with his work if you were alive and gaming in the 80's/90's. I definitely tried...

Budget title 'Twin Turbo V8' by code masters. Cover looked promising and the loading secret even better. http://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/99708-twin-turbo-v8-zx-spectrum-front-cover.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/dYOH1QA7onQ/hqdefault.jpg The game itself wasn't that good looking http://www.myaba...

None of those!
I remember it was quite open, not side scrolling per se.
You could go up stairs and kick the enemy down them.

Atari ST - Double Dragon clones

I remember an old brawler game on the ST - I'm not sure if it came on an ST Format cover disc (full game or not), but it had the look of Double Dragon, but with the game style of River City Ransom. Not sure if it was popular at the time, but it seemed to play well. I remember always thinking I'll ge...

Re: your top 10 Transformers.

Beachcomber - a nature living hippy, I think he's my favourite Jazz - cool dude, and ace car Sideswipe and Sunstreaker - I like the fact these two are brothers, the toys transform differently even though they're both Countachs Red Alert - really vane and condescending, always giving his partner Infe...

Re: Favourite Quake Game

Played Quake 8 player when I worked at Psygnosis in 1996. I was unbeatable and used to hear other players screaming in frustration. I'm generally not very good at games, but I was killer at this!

Yeah, it was usually about 20 lines long, loaded the game into memory and did a bit of POKING.

Who fixes them?
It stopped working in 1994. The last time I got it out it worked, but about five minutes later it died again.

Re: Who Loved Type-Ins?

I remember typing in a listing for my Texas Instruments TI-99 4a from the book that was supplied with the computer. It didn't work so I tore it in the middle and threw it across the room.

Re: Why are there so many Amiga fans on this forum?

As a bedroom developer, there was nothing you couldn't do with relative ease. DPaint, Protracker, AMOS, the software, games and hardware was perfection to me. I think the majority of Amiga owners eventually dabbled with doing their own thing eventually - I reckon the massive surge of gaming in the U...

Amiga 1200's - why so expensive?

I've been looking for a while for a 1200. I still have mine in it's box that I got in 1992, but there is a fault on the motherboard. They all seem to go for around £150 (whereas the 500's go for a fraction of this) - is there still a big community for these wonderful machines, or is it something els...

Re: NPR podcast about a BBS "ghost town"

Used BBS's in the early 90's. Actually downloaded full discs of games, it took ages and must've cost a fortune.
Hard to believe now that the person at the other end had to keep the machine on - no mirrors, etc.

Re: Was the web an easier place to be in Y2K

Use the internet outside of work related duties once every other week - it's now a playground for twitter/facebook types - I've heard someone call the internet (ie the whole thing) 'Facebook'. There's a million things wrong with, but like the fact I can order stuff on Amazon and download music. Soci...
