Re: The 80's arcade crash

The home videogame crash did have an influence in the US towards the arcades there. If you look at KLOV for 1983, 1984 and 1985, then the number of machines released doesn't seem to change much, just more of them then directly come from Japan instead.

Re: Doctor Who Community Buzzing With Rumours

Might be why then that a lot of female Who fans are angry at the decision here. But who can say, heh? It's not just men against the decision.

Re: From The Forum issue 171 - Best In The World

Manic Miner on the Spectrum. High Score. Am quite confident that, once 'in the zone' I can outpoint Simon Bickerdike's efforts, all of which are registered on Twin Galaxies. Three of us got approaching, or past half a million, when we played the game as part of the Llamasoft YakYak forum challenge ...

Re: From THe Forum: Issue 170

Impossible Mission, for pixel perfect platforming par excellence. IK+, for triple threat thumping chaos. And Project Firestart, for... well, seeing "danger" written in blood within the first two minutes means the whole thing's gone to hell in a handcart very quickly. And you're in the middle of it.

Re: Doctor Who Community Buzzing With Rumours

It was actually more 70s style Who to me, enough character development and progression, but perhaps a slightly underused big bad.

Re: Doctor Who Community Buzzing With Rumours

Actually, if there was one area where men were recruited in equal terms, it was the British Army. Yes, it did have Indian and black soldiers in the 19th century, and earlier than that even. So the presence of a black soldier in the story wasn't really out of place for the time in question.

I've been ill and off forum for a few weeks, can I ask what caused all this drama?
The election and Brexit, to name but two things... and Trump probably...

Re: I need a favour re: Gamecube controller

As noted, the Cube controller only becomes active once you've booted a Cube game, until then, it's Wii remote only. Do you have Mario Kart Wii or Smash Bros? Those use the Cube controller.

Re: Retro Gamer 168

I don't think it's the vision focus aspect of your eyesight that might be the problem here, more the colour aspect, and being able to see certain colours against other colours as clearly as other people. Not necessarily like being colour blind, but a comparison acuity.

Way of the Rodent

Do you like retro? Do you like surreal and bizarre writing, like a distant non-redheaded cousin to Digitiser? Then this project might be for you to recreate all the old content from WotR, a website that attracted over 100k reader for each issue... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2068767922/the-...

Re: Way of the Rodent

Not really, I barely contributed, there's far better stuff by other people that was published, I'm just helping the Kickstarter along!

Maybe Halcyon's problem are the few articles that I wrote for Rodent

(admittedly the C64 vs Spectrum piece was a classic)

Re: Way of the Rodent

Are there any samples of the work available online? I've never heard of WotR or Digitiser. The project sounds interesting but to back it I would need more to go on than former readers saying how great it is. Due to the hack, there's stuff still available via the WayBackMachine, but I'm seeing if so...
