Re: A new low for GAME shops...

I think the low for Game shops came when I bought a 'new' copy of a game that looked like it had been rubbed down with sandpaper by an insane baboon. Apparently a 'rogue' pre-owned copy had managed to bypass their quality control measures. Yes, right, I believe that as much as I believe that the "BN...

Re: C64 Speedlink set and Comp Pro Joystick

I got one of these last week and tested it over the weekend. I'm still divided as to whether I like it or not. The build quality is good, it looks like a Competition Pro and certainly feels like one. However, there are two triangular fire buttons at the base of the stick itself in addition to the us...

Re: Top Down Racer Mystery

Nitro is an excellent game. I remember getting a demo of it on an ST Format cover disk and playing it to death whilst waiting for the full game to turn up in the local games shop. Then I played that to death as well and even nowadays I still occasionally fire it up via an emulator.

Re: How much do you eat?

For me personally a typical days consumption is: Breakfast: Two slices of toast with either Anglers Relish/Poachers Relish/Gentlemens Relish or peanut butter and a cup of coffee. Lunch: Couple of sandwiches and yoghurt or a pasta bowl and yoghurt. Afternoon snack: Dried fruit or a pack of 'Bamba' pe...

Re: USB C64 style joytick with 99 C64 games - Avaliable on Play

The build quality on the original Comp Pro was iffy, with the switches in the firebuttons only lasting a few months. I often heard that complaint (leaf switches versus fire buttons), but no-one I knew ever had any issues of that sort with their Comp Pros. I had parts of various other joysticks fail...

Re: Darkman

The first film is up there in my favourite all time films list. What always impressed me was that Sam Raimi managed to create an original 'Superhero' film based on nothing more than an idea (ie it did not exist as a comic/radio serial/book) yet you always felt that it had existed forever. The neares...

Re: PS1 Millennium Soldier

Yup, an absolutely fantastic game. It was as if Commando and Contra had somehow got together and had a mutant offspring. I still dig my PS1 copy out for a blast.

Re: Snow

It's getting a bit boring round here. The main roads are clear but the side roads are like glass. All the roads round my way are hills so it's impossible to go out without ending up on your ar*e. There is one grit bin between eight roads and that has not been re-filled since the snow in February 200...

Re: so what did everybody get for chrimbo?

In terms of gaming goodies, not a lot barring The Conduit: Special Edition and Alien Syndrome for Wii. However, I did get 'The Rules of Modern Policing 1973 Edition' signed by the 'Gene Genie' himself, Philip Glenister. Also got a box set of novels, a 'Scanners' trilogy DVD box set, some smellies an...

Re: Favourite Cops & Detective shows

The Sweeney - my all time favourite. Life on Mars - absolutely brilliant in the way it captured the feel of 'The Sweeney' but added its own feel as well. Special Branch - which had influences on 'The Sweeney' Sherlock Holmes - the Jeremy Brett version. Probably the best Holmes ever. Dexter - what's ...

Re: What's your favourite Konami game?

I will go with Time Pilot closely followed by Green Beret. They were both games that got a lot of play in the arcades of my youth and I still go back to them fairly regularly via emulation and the Konami compilation on the DS.

Re: Videogames Hardware Handbook

I picked up a copy yesterday and it is a pretty good read. However, it's a shame that there is no C16/+4, Atari 800, or Acorn Electron coverage and a few of the articles are missing their top ten must have games. However, I did notice that it said 'Volume 1' on the cover so maybe there is a hope for...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Earlier I was having a wander and discovered the church a few roads away from where I live was holding a tabletop sale so mooched in for a look. I didn't expect much, just the usual old ladies selling old ladies clothes that smell suspiciously of camphor and wee and stalls of tat and a few thousand ...

Re: Are you a Sweet or Savoury person??

Definitely savoury as being diabetic it means that I don't get to eat a lot of sweet stuff unless I suffer a hypo. Even then, having to take glucose tablets leaves me cold as the taste is pretty grim. Too sweet. I will admit to a bit of a weakness to Bourbon creams but even then they are a treat. Ho...

Re: M&S advert sexist? Apparently so!

When I saw there were complaints about the M&S advert, I thought it would be over Stephen Fry's comment about "Having a little mince". You forget that in these diverse and politically correct times they could have had an advert with John Barrowman saying that at Christmas (sorry Winterval) h...
