Re: Can anyone name this car?

Definitely looks like a Sunbeam Alpine 'Fastback' or maybe a 'Fastback Coupe'.

Re: Billy Bookcase

I would go for the Argos 'Maine' bookcases. They now do them in extra deep (29.1cm) as well as the standard 18cm deep ones. I have these and they will just about take two DVDs deep with a tiny bit of front row overlap. They look almost exactly the same as 'Billy' ones but seem much sturdier and come...

Re: What Comics did you read as a kid?

My first 'proper' comic was Knockout which I started getting in 1972. From there I went on to Whizzer & Chips and the occasional copy of Dandy or Beano bought by grandparents. From about 1974 I started getting Commando as well and then my grandmother started buying me Battle when it was first publis...

Re: The running man *1987 movie

Personally, I always thought that whilst it was a good film that it, and more importantly the original book ripped off the idea from Robert Sheckley's 1950s short story 'Prize of Peril' and his later '7th Victim'. These were both made into films with 'Prize of Peril' being made into the German film ...

Re: British comics

It's not a bad site although it could do with work on some of the presentation. However, for information on all the various comics it is an excellent read. If anyone is interested in the Commando/War Picture Library/Air Ace/Battle Picture Library style comics then I can recommend 'Where Eagles Dare'...

Re: How did you get into gaming?

Living on the outskirts of a seaside town in the early 1970s meant that I had easy access to arcades. My father would often take me to these as a treat whilst mum was off shopping. Back then however, it was mostly electro-mechanical machines, shooting galleries, pinball tables, skeeball and the like...

Re: Are Gamestation after Game's record as the worst retailer?

For years I had no problems with Gamestation then all of a sudden things went downhill faster than a well greased luge competitor. Nowadays I tend to buy most of my pre-owned stuff other than charity shop finds at the local 'Pink Planet' stores. I've never had any problems and they are incredibly pi...

Re: Storage!!

I've used a few companies through my work and rates vary wildly. At one place we had a 6m x 6m 'room' and it cost us £50 a month. At another a 2m x 3m cupboard cost us £140 a month. That said, for non-business use I have seen storage companies offering storage from as little as £5 but I doubt that w...

Re: The Quest for 3D viewing & 3D gaming?

I'm very sceptical about 3D generally. To me it seems like an expensive gimmick that will be of limited interest/use. The current technology is not that great, the systems seem to give a number people headaches/migraines, don't work that well if you are colour blind or have other visual problems and...

Re: Best Game You've Discovered On A Compilation?

Back in the 'olde' days I think my best discovery was Starstrike 3D on the Beau Jolly 10 Mega Hits compilation. Despite being a fan of the Star Wars arcade game I had not really picked ip on Starstrike when it was released on the Spectrum. I bought the compilation and out of all the games that was t...

Re: Ashes to Ashes tonight!

Pretty blatant opening for another series though.....and I can guarantee Gene will have a Merc being as he was reading the catalogue at the end. It was an excellent ending to the series. I would agree that the opening for another series is there but somehow I think that is it, no more series but Ge...

Re: Split Second Movie

Yes, I remember it. I still have a copy of it on VHS as a double bill with 'Wedlock' somewhere. For straight to video fodder it was quite a decent watch with a few mates and a few beers too. The fact that Pete Postlethwaite, Ian Dury and Alun Armstrong are in it too adds a bit more to it as well. Of...

Re: Pick 1 game to play forever

The original Unreal Tournament. Enough different modes to make it interesting and the deathmatch was about the best I have experienced. I played it loads when I first got it and still dig it out for a blast once a week as a stress reliever. So if it was one game forever it would have to be UT as I k...

Re: Spectrum Compilations

As for charity compilations, there was also Kidsplay (aka The Backpack Compilation) raising money for the NSPCC - although it wasn't the best in terms of game line-up. Blimey! Five Crash Smashes, four games scoring over 80% in the same magazine not best in terms of line-up? Are we thinking of the s...

Re: Spectrum Compilations

There are a number of compilations that I remember but probably the most stand out one was the first one I bought which was the Beau Jolly '10 Mega Hits' compilation. Containing such highly rated games as Starstrike 3D, Automania, Bugaboo the Flea, Psytron, Wheelie and Penetrator along with The Fall...
