Re: If you had to choose

I'm going to go with my PS2 and a copy of Timesplitters. Had an amazing amount of fun with that back in the day and still dig it out for a blast every so often.

Re: 5 Sega games you'd like to see digitally re-released

I think I will go with a few of the more under-appreciated titles and say: 1. Outrigger - Thief mode is superb and had an obvious influence on later games like Timesplitters. 2. Confidential Mission - Brilliant lightgun shooter. 3. Baku Baku Animal - Both Mrs Von and I wasted huge amounts of time on...

Re: Today

Today we played baseball in the park.

My ninja pitching skills seem to have deteriorated in the last thirty years but at least my glove still fits.

Re: Your dream home arcade

In no particular order but the ones I would have to have:

Black Widow
Commando
Raiden
Bombjack
Vulgus
Virtua Cop 2
House of the Dead
Time Pilot
An electro-mechanical shooting gallery
An Edwardian elephant gift dispenser

However, I could add at least another 30 to that from the 1900s to the present.

Re: Anyone Played XG Blast (NDS)?

I picked a copy up for a fiver a couple of years ago and have to say it's a good, solid, retro style shooter in the Geometry Wars tyle (I own that too). It certainly kept me sane during a boring stay in a London hotel whilst attending a week of committee meetings. Don't let the rubbish cover art/scr...

Re: What are your favorite machines through the ages?

Some difficult decisions but: 1970 - 1980: Atari 2600 1982 - 1985: ZX Spectrum (C64 close second) 1986 - 1990: Atari ST (A500 close second) Early to mid 90s: Sega Megadrive and SNES equally. 1995 - 1999: Probably the Playstation although it's difficult as I consider the Saturrn a superb machine and ...

Re: Bournemouth arcades

I fear you will be disappointed. I was in both Bournemouth and Weymouth last week. Weymouth was better and that's saying something! Both were pretty grim. Sad really, as 10 years spent growing up in Weymouth and returning to live there in the 80s meant that I got to play on some of the classic machi...

Re: Did you get a wallop?

I got a few wallops, mainly for things that went beyond the bounds of normal 'naughtiness' and that endangered life or limb or bordered on criminal. However, the one I remember the most was my grandad, normally a great bloke who taught me a lot of things useful in later life, giving me a right royal...

Re: Charity Shops

Charity shops are funny places with regard to prices. Round here, the prices in different branches of the same 'chain' can vary wildly. In the 'posh' part of town expect to pay £4 for a copy of Pro Evolution 5 whereas in other parts of town most PS2 games go for £1.50. Even in my local area prices c...

Re: The 70's BBC2

I was born in the latter half of the 60s so did most of my growing up in the 70s. For kids it was a great decade. We had a lot of freedom. There were the stirrings of the kind of technology that would lead to where we are now. It was an era of classic sweets and a golden age of comics. There was cla...

Re: "I'm not allowed to say how many planes joined the raid.

I remember it vividly. I was 16 at the time but for me the thing that makes me remember it the most is 7 pebbles that take pride of place on one of my shelves below the shield that was awarded to my Great Uncle by his home town after his exploits in WW1 . They were picked up on Pebble Island by a re...

Planetoid. Apart from being the best clone of Defender ever it was the source of many wasted hours when we were supposed to be doing 'sensible' programming in the school computer suite back in 1982.

Re: Watches

I always wear a watch and can't imagine not doing so. After all, phones can run out of power in a couple of days, watches are less likely to do so. I also have a collection of approximately 200 pocket watches as well with types ranging from good old fashioned wind-up ones(Victorian full and half hun...

Re: What grinds your gears ?

Regarding idiots in supermarkets who park their trolleys at stupid angles/in awkward places, don't look where they are going (aisle zombies) or are generally obnoxious...I used to hate them but now find them a source of amusement. Why? Because Mrs Von and I play a game where if someone p*sses us off...
