Re: Gaming elements that annoy you.

- arcade games that don't let you continue anymore after a certain level - the competitive aspects of online games in general, where you just don't stand a chance unless you spend endless nights playing, or unless you cheat - "boosts" that cost real money -> notice how these are effectively cheats, ...

Re: The Greatest Games Systems Of All Time

1. Commodore 64 (10 points): still unbeaten in variety and sheer amount of games available, pure undiluted fun and immense creativity 2. Sinclair ZX Spectrum (9 points): would be ex-aequo with the C64 if it wasn't for the inferior sound and color clash 3. Commodore Amiga (8 points): as best as you c...

Re: Too many worthwhile games?

How do you prioritise what to buy/play? If it costs money, it gets the lowest priority, probably zero. How do you balance retro and current gaming? I'd like to say 100% retro and 0% current, but I have to admit that sometimes I play contemporary Blizzard games, mostly because some friends want to p...

Games genres that you just don't like

I have a total hate for FPS. Maybe it'll be a completely different matter in VR, but so far I have always hated all of them, starting from the old Doom/Quake/etc, technical and graphical improvements didn't make them any better for me.

Is there one or more kind of games that never worked for you?

Re: Mame recommendations?

I could easily recommend more than a hundred MAME games... let's see if I can restrain myself a bit :D CLASSICS: (these are my favourite oldies that never tire me, they are actually quite challenging to last longer than a few minutes) - Donkey Kong - Pac-Man > you'll enjoy this more after you read a...

Re: Great cooperative games for 2 players simultaneously?

I could swear there was a website with fully searchable information on every arcade coin-op game ever made including variants and bootlegs... and I was hoping it would also allow searches by number of players supported. I think it allowed other kinds of narrow searches such as by controls (e.g. spin...

Re: Using two wireless controllers in Windows 7

RetroArch should be able to detect it fine, it works absolutely perfectly with two official PS3 controllers connected to the same computer on Ubuntu wirelessly. RA is configured to work the same almost everywhere, so it should be okay. Not sure about other emulators and Windows 7 in general, but it...

Using two wireless controllers in Windows 7

Hello, I am planning to buy a second wireless controller to play 2-players games on MAME and other emulators, but I am wondering how do they make sure that different wireless controllers aren't transmitting on the same channel, messing with each other signal? Each wireless controller usually works o...

Great cooperative games for 2 players simultaneously?

I am looking for suggestions on good retrogames that are playable by 2 players at the same time, but where players are on the same side instead of against each other. All genres allowed, although I would prefer to avoid fighting or battle games, since the players will be my children. My purpose is t...

PlayStation games backwards compatibility

What is the general level of games compatibility between PS1-PS2-PS3-PS4? I have never had any PS console, and I am considering buying a second-hand PS3. Will it generally run PS2 games? How about PS1 games? Are there some key famous games for PS2 that won't run on PS3? Thanks!

Games that defy genre

Which games throughout history (for any computer or console system) are seriously hard to classify into a genre?

I can think for example of Alter Ego (C=64), the closest genre I can think about is simulation, but being so generic I'm not sure it's even a valid genre at all...

Re: If You Could Choose One System

I'd choose the C=64 because of the overall balance between AV performance, flexibility and enormous catalogue.

Re: Games that hold nostalgia for you

Nostalgia drives my life :D Let's gloss over the possible psychiatric analysis, and just say that to me it started in the mid-nineties when I entered university, and I began to feel attracted again to many things I liked in my childhood. Besides computer games, it was also the 80s music, movies, jap...

Re: Anyone went computing/video gaming at school?

I went to public schools in Italy. In middle school (11-13yo) in the years 1986-1989, we had a Commodore 64 which we used mostly for Logo, as part of a school curriculum class called 'Technical Education', but the classes also covered a lot of other topics from technical design & drawing, to finance...
