Re: What's your favourite classic racing game?

I never knew there was an RC Pro Am 2 but I spent a lot of time on the original on NES. I can't believe no one has mentioned Micro Machines! Fantastic games but very difficult (great multiplayer). A couple of arcade classics are Super Sprint (good conversion on C64) and Hot Rod. If you're looking fo...

Re: P.T.

I haven't played it but I watched it on Youtube and it was incredibly atmospheric and scary!
Having said that, it's almost put me off playing the game! I find survival horror a bit too stressful to get into after being at work all day - I'm too much of a big jessie (same goes for Alien: Isolation).

Re: Nintendo criticizes "casual gaming attitude"

Looking forward to see how this turns out TBH. A new Excite truck, Waverace, Fzero, etc would be most welcome. Don't hold your breath. Even a change of focus at Nintendo won't magic up the developers needed to make such games. Still, at least the new Star Fox is definitely in the works now. Would b...

Re: Nintendo criticizes "casual gaming attitude"

Not saying they do, just that the argument you used applied to any console. The Wii appealed to a certain market, but it also resulted in a lot of users staying away from it. The millions who bought a Wii were made up largely of people who jumped on board for the latest fad and were never likely to...

Re: Nintendo criticizes "casual gaming attitude"

The thing with Nintendo... If you already have a Wii or a GameCube (or can pick one up for about £20) you can arguably have as much fun with it as you can with a WiiU, playing games that look almost exactly the same and cost a fraction of the price. People complain about the likes of COD but one th...

Re: Nintendo criticizes "casual gaming attitude"

There's nothing wrong with casual gaming. But if you have to spend £200 on the gaming device in the first place and then anywhere between £3.50 for the cheapest downloadable games to £45 for retail releases how casual can it be? How can it possibly compete with free or 69p games downloaded onto a ph...

Who knows why it's so good?

In this thread I want to ask the question of why certain series have been revered and consistently successful while others have fallen by the wayside. Who knows, we could come up with the equation for creating the most successful and best game ever. I'll start off with a couple of Nintendo franchise...

Re: Gaping holes on today's game market

Another vote here for space shooters and future racing. The Colony Wars games and Rogue Squadron/Leader are some of my favourite games of all time. Wipeout, Xtreme G and F-Zero are also very strong games which I think are due a re-surgence. Actually another sub genre of racing would be (I suppose) t...

Re: Which Rare era was the best to you?

While I loved many of their games on the Spectrum (Sabrewulf and sequels, Alien8 etc) the games I have probably spent the most time on are the isometric NES games. RC Pro Am, Cobra Triangle and Snake, Rattle n Roll were all played to death (or until I hit a difficulty wall - never managed to complet...

Re: Anyone into Scalextric ???

When I was a kid I had a Matchbox Race & Chase (with awesome box-art). The cars were smaller than Scalextric but it had a U-Turn function where you clicked a button on top of the controller and your car turned around and went in the other direction. It had a figure of 8 track with a see-saw ramp in ...

Re: Best / Worst controllers and 3rd party controllers

I never liked the Dreamcast controller either, the grips are too parallel and the stick is too slippery. The N64 pad was always a bit of a mess too imho. A rare mis-step from Nintendo which they followed up with the Gamecube pad - one of my favourites (apart from the Z button). As for decent third p...

Re: Best or Worst of ZX Spectrum

Also the infamous Zoids review, werent Crash given some freebies or something for that ? That review was one of the worst i had seen in Crashi I too was taken in by their 96% Crash Smash review, went out a bought it (I wasn't even in to Zoids!) and never worked out what I was supposed to be doing! ...
