Re: What type of PC Upgrader are you?

A PC gamer has to be knowledgeable about tech unless he's happy spending hundreds on a machine he knows nothing about and takes pot luck whenever he buys a game. Such ignorance is a luxury that belongs to console gamers. Not sure where you get that from to be honest, building a PC and running games...

Re: What type of PC Upgrader are you?

And why exactly would it be wrong to be enthusiastic about tech? PC gaming usually draws the type of people who are interested or knowledgeable about hardware or software, it's only natural they are interested in such matters. And someone who plays StarCraft may have just as much fun as you playing...

Re: GameCube Action Replay

You can still get them NOS on Amazon for £18. I got mine back in 2011 for about the same price and I don't think it's too bad a deal for all the functionality you get. I mainly use it as a freeloader for imports rather than cheats, though.

Re: What type of PC Upgrader are you?

I just upgrade things when the price is right. I don't need the latest and greatest and I'm quite happy to stay behind and play older games. The PC I'm using at the moment was a £30 local pick up on eBay. It came in a CIT Vantage case and has an AMD dual core processor at 2.3 Ghz, 250GB hard drive a...

Re: Retro PC gaming

The issue of quickly dated hardware has already been adressed, however I can say that the times where you had to upgrade basically each year are long gone. It's now possible to game well on a few years old hardware quite well, if you don't demand exactly top quality graphics and performance. Althou...

Re: A machine/s you just couldnt feel the love for?

I've had a bit of trouble getting behind the PS2 and original XBox - mainly because I see them as soulless multimedia devices rather than game consoles.

Re: Which machine had the best games per its overall output?

I think the Original Gameboy might be in with a shout. Looking at this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSKtbfiF-8U there were some simplistic titles and some potentially annoying ones but there weren't really any that had no redeeming features whatsoever. My only complaint with the original GB...

Re: Which machine had the best games per its overall output?

I'll nominate the Sega Master System. This is a console that bombed in the US and Japan and got a humble 269 games in its most successful region (Europe). Most of the shovelware was bought and paid for by Nintendo which left the SMS with some fine arcade ports, some of the best platform games ever m...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

The joystick for my Neo Geo finally arrived today, so a month after the first bit of my set-up arrived I finally got the chance to play it! Only got Super Sidekicks 2 and Metal Slug so far. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CdMZaXqWEAAIN1U.jpg So, what is that exactly? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say...

Re: Charity Shops

I've seen unexpanded 520STFMs go for £50+ on eBay lately. It would have to have everything in working order though. You'd be doing well to get one for £30, unless it's from someone charging £20 more postage than everyone else. Most of the ones for around that price seem to have either have a broken...

Re: Charity Shops

Do you actually have the mouse, and does it all work? If so, I'd think you could ask for £50 for it, at least if you could throw in an RF cable and power lead so the only thing the buyer needs to supply is games. £50 for an off-the-shelf 520 STfm is a bit too much. I would expect fully refurbished ...

Composite is preferable to HDMI for me because I still use a CRT for everything and don't even own a modern flatscreen television.

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

Presume it'll be mostly the same but with some current homebrew games Sure they want loads more but it must be a nightmare trying to contact IP holders or in some cases Microsoft own the ultimate ones and Elite might own exclusive rights perhaps to some games. Must be tricky Personally, I don't car...

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

I'm getting one because I'd rather play Speccy games on a contemporary Sinclair machine than a soulless tablet or mobile phone.
