Oh, and dropping the number pad was a bad idea on the A600 anyway. Flight sims often used it, making them harder to play.
That's debatable. I've used an A600 for years without ever coming across any software that required its use but then I'm not really into flight simulators or Deluxe Paint.

Amiga 300

I daresay most people here have heard about David Pleasance's original intentions for what became the A600 (a low cost entry level Amiga to tap into the declining C64 market) and my questions are: 1) Was a C64C T2 pack cost level Amiga even doable and what features would it have had and which ones w...

Re: New Game RANDOMAZER for the ATARI STe

Just gave it a go on the real hardware and got through most of the trainer levels. Marble Madness meets Boulderdash. Seems to be a pretty good game. I think you should make it more clear that you're only offering a demo version here. A lot of people resent being led to a site for a game just to be t...

As for the cooling issues, it's worth bearing in mind that the Pi 4 has four cores running at over twice the speed of the original and it's pretty much flat out when emulating. So it's best not to rely on the basic heat sink.
Is it worth investing in a heatsink for a 3B+ running Amibian?

Re: Advice on what Pie to buy

That Flirc case looks really nice too. I think I'll go for that one then. That ICE tower looks like a mini version the Heatsink-fan I've got sitting inside my gaming PC that I built just over a year ago lol I'm also interested in some Amiga Emulation too. Is NOOBS what I need to run more than one O...

Re: Advice on what Pie to buy

I recently bought a Raspberry Pi (3B+) to turn it into an Amiga mini with Amibian (a distro that focuses solely on running UAE). The idea is to get a WHDLoad set-up for a third of the price it would cost me to upgrade my A600 for the job. It also has the added boon of fitting on my desk next to my d...

Re: Flatcsreen CRT vs Tube style crt for retro gaming?

It's something that really has to be addressed on a system by system basis. Some systems, like the N64, remain very CRT dependant without expensive modding for HDMI or RGB while others with native RGB or component support run just fine no questions asked. I've found composite to be a waste of time f...

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

One thing I'd like to add just in case the OP is overwhelmed with all the advice he's been given is just taking that step forward and buying a system is the most important thing - you'll learn everything else as you go along. If your gut is telling you to get a NES, go for it; it's still a great sys...

My best friend who just passed two weeks ago always raved on about Pilotwings 64
Sorry to hear about that. For my best friend, it's Gauntlet. Couldn't even imagine the thought of losing him :( .

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

Does it matter when it's so easy to add more games? I feel the purpose of a Mini is to provide a fixed experience of key games that define a system. If a game makes a Mini package, it should be a strong indicator of how highly said game is regarded and its place in the development of the system. Pi...

MiSTer

Following Shiffy's comments about MiSTer in the NES/SNES thread, I thought I would start a thread about the device. I don't personally own one but I'm intrigued by the notion of a middle ground between emulation and the real hardware and how far it can go. Ultimately, the MiSTer comes up against the...

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

My Opinion would be a SNES or SNES Mini. The SNES Mini lost all credibility for me when they failed to include Pilotwings. Absolutely criminal omission IMO (both in terms of game quality and significance in the console's history). And 21 games is a disgrace when the MD Mini has 40 and the PC Engine...

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

Its interesting, its become harder to recommend pure retro gaming like this than back in 2007 when I took a more serious stab at it, and that was thanks to the ease of the Virtual Console. For me, it was a bootleg emulator disc on eBay. I was living on £60 a week Jobseeker's Allowance at the ...

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

Probably a lot of things to consider if you're going full on original models. For starters, back in those days most of our games ran slower thanks to 50Hz. If you've been familiarising yourself with NES/SNES on stuff like the Switch which use the 60Hz versions, you might be shocked to find how slow...

Re: Turbografx Mini/PC Engine Mini

I got mine today (ordered from Japan) and the system has completely blown me away... this console has everything; great games, great music, great graphics. Very quick delivery from Amazon.

If anyone here is on the fence about this - just do it!
