Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?
Looking at the answers, it's clearly dependant on what computer you had. It it were an Atari 8 bit, then disks were better cause tapes took three years to load. The C64 wasn't much better till later on when turbos brought load times under six minutes. With the Spectrum though - the best micro for t...

Re: The Wonders of the World Cup
You do wonder if we will ever get such a lucky route through any time soon. It was quite remarkable. The only world class team we played was Belgium, which we of course lost. This semi-final, 3rd/4th finish is a great result, but lets hope we don't get too carried away. We finished group runners up,...

Re: Franchises and games you are surprised haven't returned
Speaking of EA....but not shocked to see its not returned, but the (Desert) Strike series disappeared after Nuclear Strike in 1997. Always liked these games (especially the 16 bit ones), and been playing some of them again recently on Megadrive.
Come on EA, put out a remastered Strike anthology!

Re: From The Forum issue 183 - Tetris: Best puzzler ever?
Just started reading this issue, and this may be the first edition that my partner took interest in, as she LOVES Tetris (must be some sort of eastern european thing!) Love the original Gameboy version of Tetris (perhaps THE essential GB game), and sure its where most people got started, but w...

Re: The Wonders of the World Cup
Well gutted ! But one stat they showed late on said it all, Croatia 7 shots on target at goal, England 1. Think we just ran out of steam second half, not any great chances. Kane should have scored in the first half, if he had tapped it across it would have been a goal. Shame But Croatia were the be...

Re: The Wonders of the World Cup
In terms of individual talent, experience and player value, this is one of Englands "weakest" squads, and with a pretty inexperienced manager (at top level), but by the miracle of a kind draw, and perhaps the fearless nature of a youthful team with low expectations, we have made it to the semi-final...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. I think this may be the third time I've owned it. Ordered from CEX for £42 which is the cheapest I could find it. It came in a tatty "Player's Choice" box and without the manual. I guess you get what you pay for. :| Ouch, can't believe Gamecube games are valued ...

Re: The 5000 club.
Just noticed I've passed 5000 posts, really doesn't feel like that many. Congratulations. Ring that bell! Thanks Seph, in all seriousness I probably couldn't have done it without you. You're welcome, and likewise! I'll be ringing that 5k bell in part thanks to you in the not too distant futur...

Re: The Wonders of the World Cup
Now Uruguay and Brazil are out, England are probably the 3rd best team left in the WC, and the top two obviously are battling it out in the Semi-Finals next week. We could easily slip up to Sweden today though, and Croatia on their day could definitely beat us, or the home nation of Russia and their...

Re: What grinds your gears ?
Wimbledon does seem very low key this year, with Murray out, and England still in the WC. But I'll get back on the wimbledon wagon as the tennis legends of Federer and Nadal continue to progress. It will be truly agonising if we get a Federer v Nadal wimbledon final this year, as it would start 2pm ...

Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?
I can't really recall having much exposure to big floppies (shush...) when they were about. I had a C64 with the datasette device, so virtually all my games were tape, or the occasional C64 cartridge on that system. Sadly, my C64 is broken, and although I own loads of tape games still, I couldn't ve...

Re: What are you currently playing?
Playing a bit of Desert Strike (on Megadrive mainly, but also trying out on Amiga and SNES), and also the recent demo of Captain Toads Treasure Tracker on the Switch, got be playing the full game on the Wii U a bit more over the weekend so far.

Re: CBM64 or C64?
Technically it should be referred to as the Commodore C64. CBM comes from Commodore Business Machines (as it was at the time). There were the P and B models (Personal and Business) so the C64 was the first model in the C (Consumer) range. All those years I thought the C in C64 stood for Commodore! ...
