Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I use NiMh rechargables and I get about 8 hours play. It still beats the crap out of the Game Gear and the Lynx in that regard. Yeah, the Lynx and Game Gear had/have truly awful battery life (2 hours?? what a joke!). Although I understand if you do the screen mod for both of those consoles, the bat...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I think the original Gameboy was a bit lardy and requiring 4 AA batteries is a bit of a downer (perhaps modded the battery life is improved, although possibly not given the original didn't have to power a backlight). I use NiMh rechargables and I get about 8 hours play. It still beats the crap out ...

Re: Backwards Compatability

I'll get an Xbox One X soon, and one of the reasons for buying it is Microsofts pretty decent commitment to backwards compatibility. The emulation, going by Digital Foundry and other similar tech analysis sites, seems to be absolutely stunning.....its "emulation plus" basically. Genuinely upscaled g...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

That does look pretty cool! I'm not sure if it would be a better or more practical experience than say the GBA SP (101 or 001 models) for playing original GB games on (aside from retro authenticity of course) Too small, crap sound and no 3.5mm jack to do anything about it. You can buy a mini headph...

Re: What grinds your gears ?

The state of the news in general, but especially the downward spiral of the BBC news website, something I've moaned about before. I watched the Joe Rogan podcast with Elon Musk today, didn't bat an eyelid when Musk had a few smokes of Rogan's joint. Now it's front page news: "Man does legal thing i...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

The original DMG-01 Gameboy has a pretty blurry awful green tinted screen. Things improved dramatically with the Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Color - much sharper and far less motion blurring. The original Gameboy can be modded for a backlight and improved contrast. I have one and I wouldn't be witho...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I've recently got a yellow Gameboy with Tetris, Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2. Hmmm - blurry! Has time made the screen less vibrant or is that just how the GB is?? The original DMG-01 Gameboy has a pretty blurry awful green tinted screen. Things improved dramatically with the Gameboy Pock...

Re: Which Dreamcast?

I would recommend getting an RGB Scart cable (especially if you get an NTSC system) because the picture will be a lot better. The Dreamcast was at least 3 years ahead of its time and some of the graphics on the system still hold up well today. RGB Scart cable is great, but would you not go further ...

Re: Streets of Rage 4 officially announced!!!

Main issue for me is that this needs to be pretty special after the immense Streets of Rage Remake which was incredible for an unofficial product. Wow yea, almost forgot about that one - that was terrific (played it on the OG Xbox). An official sequel is welcome, but it obviously appears to have sa...

Re: Cex now selling Super Nes stuff

I'm always staggered at how much people will pay for inferior versions of classic games. PAL SNES is some of the worst around when it comes to poor optimisation. Nothing quite compares with the PAL Megadrive version of Sonic the Hedgehog though! You mean the proper one, and not that weird foreign o...

Re: The first games you completed.

Some of you have terrific memories (both in terms of nostalgia, but also your ability to recall such prehistoric events)! :D Had a couple of home computers like the Amiga and C64 so must have got to a few ending screens that weren't overly memorable during the 80s in early years. First home console ...

Re: What grinds your gears ?

Cheers chaps. I forced myself to drive to work and back the last 2 days. Not perfect driving by any means but I made it which was encouraging. :) I may master the manual yet, but still tempted by the idea of an auto. :| Maybe I've missed it, but can't believe nobody noted that "gears" are grinding ...
