Re: Modern console power comparison

Oh dear. I understand that you would be floundering in this discussion, since there is simply no solid ground to suggest the Megadrive outperformed the SNES either in sales of hardware, software or performance. Having had the pleasure of playing games extensively on both, the SNES is clearly the su...

Re: Modern console power comparison

superior stock hardware.... Again arguable, the Mega Drive's much faster CPU gave it a distinct advantage in certain areas and didn't require the extra chips in cartridges that the SNES had. Tectoys "version" of the Megadrive was more of a clone than the real thing (no cartridge slot on it). I unde...

Re: Modern console power comparison

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, this is a Tectoy Mega Drive: http://www.sega-brasil.com.br/fullalbums/Consoles/Mega%20Drive/Mega_Drive_Caixa_Frente.jpg And so is this: http://segaretro.org/images/1/1d/TTMD3_71G.png They were not clones, they were official units that used exactl...

Re: Modern console power comparison

Only it's not that simple because firstly its been revealed in books like Game Over (by Nintendo staff no less) that Nintendo inflated their sales figures. Secondly the generally quoted figure of 40 million for the MD does not include sales in South America, where the MD was officially sold and pro...

Re: Modern console power comparison

Yes, the SNES won the 16 bit "war". SNES sold 50m consoles, the Megadrive/Genesis sold about 40m consoles. In some regions the MD matched the SNES or may even have been ahead, but globally, the SNES won the 16 bit generation, both in software and hardware sales. It was close at points during the gen...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I just can't bring myself to play any Sim City game on a console, it has to be on a PC. Sim City 2000 looks dire on a PS1 and Saturn, and without mouse control is even more painful!

Come on, get the Windows 95 PC edition instead! The games a classic!

Re: Modern console power comparison

Power isn't everything. Two of the best games, and the highest rated by the aggregate sites, are Wii exclusives (Mario Galaxy 1 & 2). Only GTA IV and V came close in that regard, and they were multiplatform. Also, wasn't the best selling games of last generation on the "weak" Nintendo Wii? Same appl...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Think that will be it in terms of Saturn games. I thought about Fighters Megamix, but have 4 beat em ups for the platform already quite similar, including the two games its a "combination" of. Shame. There's so much Sega goodness in there that it's a bit more than just Virtua Fighter 2 Vs Fighting ...

Re: windows 7 professional 64 bit vs 32 bit for retro gaming

I attempted to load up Theme Hospital on my Windows 7 64bit Laptop the other night, but failed to work, so instead dug out the old trusty Pentium 3 1Ghz, 512MB RAM Dell Latitude and it ran perfectly on that. Has all the emulators and ROMs on that laptop to, and they all run perfectly (up to 16 bit e...

Well, i'm not a particularly good businessman anyway....i'd say half the stuff i buy, i give away  As flatapex said though, one man's shovelware is another man's treasure. You just have to marry up the two  I'd say stuff like Pippa Funnells Horse Trials, Style Boutique and Petz Dog Playg...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Tonight, I dug out my old Pentium 3 laptop to play some sessions of Theme Hospital, GTA 2 and Sim City 3000. Superb games the lot of them, and sooooooo sooo sooooooo sooo soooooooooooooo much better on PC than on Playstation (the first 2 that is). I'd been playing Theme Hospital on the PS1 for a whi...

No, they're both still modern cutting edge gaming and the console sales war between Sega's Saturn and Nintendo's N64 is very much alive :D

Re: Will the I Pad and I Phone replace consoles

Touch screen gaming has its place, but it can't replicate the accuracy of physical controls. The games on tablets and smart phones can be decent, and they've created a new market, but consoles will be here for a while yet.
