Re: MAME - what do you use?
On my laptop, I use a piece of software called MAMEUIFX64 - its nothing glamourous in terms of frontend presentation, but does a solid job. Can't remember the Romset i downloaded, but it was fairly large, and contains 10,500 games (including many clones and regional dupes) - MAMEUIFX colour codes an...

Re: Save our forum!
I think its a bit like the high street shops. their days are numbered and they are disappearing one by one. Seems less and less people here everytime I log in. It seems Facebook has killed forums. I finally succumbed to the dark side and joined Facebook as I regularly speak to several ex RG members...

Re: games where the original was best
Galaga was a sequel! Galaxian is the original! I would say Robocop, Outrun, Double Dragon, Tetris and Lemmings. I think yes to all of these. Yes to all, aside from Outrun. If it weren't for this forum, I'd probably have never have tried (and bought) Outrun 2 and Coast to Coast. Its vastly superior ...

Re: games where the original was best
I think Gran Turismo probably peaked around GT3 or GT4, after that, Forza eclipsed that series and just felt a more accomplished racer.

Re: What's Your Favorite Driving/Racing Game Ever?

Re: Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
I honestly can't remember, it's been ages since I used my Wii, and even longer since I set it up. Ah ok, fair enough. I am of the belief that this occurs to any console that is running off component in progressive scan mode (and in 4:3). Xbox OG the same occurs, same with PS2, as well as Wii. Don't...

Re: Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
Ah, that sort of distortion. Not seen that since my CRT days. I had a Matsui TV that was terrible for bending the edge of the image out slightly on the brightest bits of the image. Mid tones were fine, but whites would distort out. Nope, not noticed it on the Wii on flat panel. You running your wii...

Re: Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
I've seen slight light bleed/discolouration from pure black on the far right when using black bordered 4:3 video on at least one of my TVs. Seems like it follows where the image is brightest on the right before the border. I just put it down to my buying cheap crappy TVs from Asda and not spending ...

Re: games where the original was best
As much as I love the original GTA with it's top-down viewpoint, GTA V is a masterpiece and one of the finest games ever made. Golden Axe, Toe Jam & Earl and Sega Rally I can get behind though 8) GTA is great from any perspective, but yea, the more expansive 3D worlds took it to whole new levels, a...

Re: Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
Nah, sadly changing the Wii into 4:3 mode doesn't work, as you still then have to set your tv to 4:3 mode as well (it even prompts you to do so!), and the weird light bleed occurs. Its very peculiar, and I can't find anywhere on the net replicating the same problem. Maybe they just put up with it (a...

Re: Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
Maybe an obvious question but have you tried a different TV? Could just be an oddity of that TV. Do you switch the Wii into 4:3 mode for 4:3 games, or leave it at 16:9 and just switch the TV to 4:3? Maybe both the TV and Wii need to be in 4:3? Good question - but I'm almost certain it occurred on t...

Modern(ish) TV distortions in 4:3 mode
Does anyone else, using modernish LCD/LED tvs for component based (480p/720p res) consoles like the Wii and Xbox, get a strange distorted line at the far right edge of the screen when switching to 4:3 mode on their telly? Not sure if i'm explaining myself clearly, but for Wii Virtual Console games, ...

Re: Retro Gamer issue 180
Just enjoying reading through my copy now. I'll be setting up Chaos Engine and Power Drift later - thinking the CD32 and 3DS versions should do the trick. I'm not overly bothered by the cover artwork being different between the subs and the retail versions of the mag. Seems like an unnecessary extra...

Re: games where the original was best
I would say Robocop, Outrun, Double Dragon, Tetris and Lemmings. Outrun is definitely better than Turbo or Outrunners, and the 8/16 bit console/handheld variants....but Outrun 2 is just in a league of its own in the series (even though i still enjoy and love the original). Outrun 2/Coast to Coast 2...
