Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 124

Re the XEGS...smart looking casing, but how on earth Atari thought aging software (which to be fair contained a large amount of classic titles) was going to compete with the NES which had all the big name games tied up, has always baffled me.Brave, but foolish attempt by Atari. I agree with the res...

Re: Jag and 3DO 20 years old this year.

Well Nintendos decision was worse than Ataris in the fact that in 1993 cartridge based games were acceptable,by 1997 after the PS1, Saturn had came out with cd music, larger storage then it really mattered. In 1993 pc-rom gaming had only just started taking off, but there was nothing on it to make y...

Re: Jag and 3DO 20 years old this year.

It was dated in the fact that it was not future proof, Atari spent too much time looking at what made the snes and MD a success instead of looking forward. NEC had started relaesing games on CD well before the jag cam out and had ways to save, CDI, 3DO were complete. all these were cd based, on boa...

Re: Jag and 3DO 20 years old this year.

Nintendo and Sega woould have supplied titles that everyone wanted to play from day one. It would have had a better controller. The jaguar was already behind the times in so many ways. a controller with only 3 main buttons, no on board memory or cards to save games. it was already starting to look ...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 124

CruisinUSA?! that was a awful arcade game, it certainly didn't 'evolve' any arcade racer, should have swapped that for Ridge Racer.

Re: Now that 2DS makes sense

Whoops! Although the 2DS made sense anyway, as an entry-level machine for kids. But yeah, I wonder if they saw this coming and thought that they could minimise the damage by making sure a proportion of hardware sales didn't include the offending technology. I highly doubt it had anything todo with ...

Re: Jag and 3DO 20 years old this year.

Yes true, which tells us nobody else wanted to risk longer development and higher costs, only Atari licensed the software, in the end they had no option but to licence shovelware as Jag owners were just hungry for some games.

Re: Jag and 3DO 20 years old this year.

Atari recommended that the 68k is turned off after the machine has been booted for the best performance, unfortunately very few people actually did this. Most programmers just made lazy Mega Drive/Amiga ports that use the familiar 68k as the CPU. The idea was that all the custom chips would be used...
