Re: What are you currently playing?

^ Great game for sure, the closest to a modern-day "Diddy Kong Racing" imo. Pure Sega fan service too.

Re: Amstrad, Spectrum or C64. What is the worst and best hardware for gaming?

It's a bit like the Amiga/Atari ST/DOS PC question, thus complex to answer (as we know, Amiga rocked in the 80s but DOS PC basically killed it off in the mid 90s thanks to Doom and other factors). I had only a ZX so I can't fully answer this, but I will say that each machine had it's strenghts and w...

Re: New highly impressive CPC game

It indeed looks impressively fast, but you'll notice that the perspective of the upcoming road is much flatter than in comparable games - like Chase HQ and WEC Le Mans - with most of the action happening in a relatively small section of the screen down at the bottom. Having a lot less data to shuff...

New highly impressive CPC game

Looks like the 8-bit home micro with the best colour palette is getting it's modern "killer app" - Vespertino:

I have to say, those framerates seem unreal for the CPC. Some intense coding magic had to be at work here.

Re: What are you currently playing?

Sonic Mania. It's really good, I'm actually surprised they managed to capture the feel and thought out level design of the classic 2D Sonics so well.

Looks like community-powered game development and content could be the new big deal going into the near future.

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

Its in the same universe. Its referenced in the story somewhere. Not sure if this is true. Quake was taking place in some H.P. Lovecraft-inspired world full of dark medieval castles, zombies, knights, odd monsters and the like rather than bases on Mars and Hell itself like Doom did. Quake II is sti...

Re: Favorite GBA game

It's actually more of a portable 3DO, technically speaking. But I know what you mean, it has a lot of games that are either from SNES or feautre SNES-like scrolling effects. How so? Aside from the ARM CPU I don’t see that the GBA has much in common with the 3DO. I meant that more in the sense that ...

Super Mario Bros 64 released

64 stands for C=64, not N64:

It's the full NES SMB on the C=64, pretty neat stuff.

There's some slowdown there but the game makes use of SuperCPU which reduces it.

Re: Favorite GBA game

Kuku Kuru Kururin A nice little game, but I unfortunately made the mistake of playing the Gamecube version first, which is magnificent and so much better suited to analogue control! I always wanted to try the NGC version but never did. I guess I should correct that at some point. Not many, even tho...

Re: Master System must haves?

Sonic Chaos I have a huge soft spot for. It's clearly riiiiiiight on the edge of what the SMS can do but it's doing it. Don't think I've ever played that. I'll have to give it a go 😀 Just been playing it now, loved it. Would be been good to see a Mega Drive version of it too. You're lucky, it exist...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

I loved quake 2. It really blew me away when I first saw it running in IIRC HMV. Fantastic music too. Wasn't really a quake game though. Sci-fi space marine is a bit too close to doom. If you ask me, Quake II is still very much Quake, except they removed the fantasy H.P. Lovecraft inspired stuff in...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

Music wise there's no better than the Trent Reznor stuff. As for gameplay / graphics, Quake 1 had the whole Cthulhu type thing going, and the mish mash of medieval fantasy and futuristic tech for both the look of the levels + the enemies you'd encounter. See I found Quake a bit incoherent. Zombies,...

Quake II Fully Ray Traced

Well, another big technological push seems to be going on in the PC gaming scene right now - consumer level ray tracing is finally a thing with Nvidia's GeForce RTX series (AMD and Intel to follow in the future) and we're already getting the first examples of ray tracing support in big commercial ga...
