Does the type-in JSW (or was it Manic Miner) single level that was part of the regular C&VG count? No? Hm...

I remember the first Zzap64 with a tape on. That was amazing I though. Last Ninja demo. Sensible 3D demo.
I might have a Heaven 17 record from CU somewhere. Not a game though.

Re:

So you're saying that Retro Gamer should only cover games that you have played? Not at all, That would be ridiculous. I am saying that there should be additional content from the writer / developer of the game and various other sources so that it also appeals and is of interest to people who didn't...

#20 arrived. I need to subscribe now (and find the URL for it). Read some of it. The "news" part of the mag seems to have calmed down a bit in its design. No more cutting corners of pictures. Good. "From the forum" looked crap visually. Was that intended, or were you supposed to be able to read it p...

Re:

Seeing the 'gaunlet versions' thread - I must say I think gauntlet is very overated, infact its just short of papp! Heretic! First up against the wall. And so on. The instant I saw the arcade cabinet and the game running I was in love. What a wonderful game. I had the same instant feelings for Marb...

Re:

But don't you appreciate it for what it "was", back when it was unleashed on the general gaming public it was incredible! It certainly was. Any first of its kind usually is. Then you get a chance to compare it with the next generation (or perhaps Next Generation would be apropriate these days) and ...

Re:

How the hell can you be a "retro fan" and dislike PacMan and Space Invaders?!?! Take one game, sit down, play game, evaluate game, remember it is 2005 and you're a grown up (or at least pretend to do during day-time), and come to a conclusion. Galaga is great. Centipede is great. Space Inva...

I'd be interested in seeing a "family tree" or soft-/hard-o-graphy showing how persons/people/companies through time has made software or hardware. Lots of hw companies have been _very_ anonymous and have been taken over (Hi Toro), legally blackmailed into selling their design (7800), or simply done...

Re:

I had a chat to Archer McLean on the weekend about stuff like this - I mentioned that one of the most interesting things about DVDs is the Director's Commentary which always contains little anecdotes and bits of info on how certain things were done, or why certain things appear in certain ways. It ...

Night Mission Pinball. Or some other pinball. For my PSP. Tilted on the side for the correct perspective.

I'd like to climb my very high horse and say that retro has nothing to do about it: A good game is a good game no matter what. What I _do_ like about retro is that they are usually designed for 2D and as such makes it much easier/clearer to view the playfield and orientate yourself. (Ok, so nostalgi...

Retro: 8-bit
(I'm running Amiga sw as we type, and its games are too big, too technical, too detailed, and too advanced to go by the definition of Retro in my mind. Oh well.)

You HAD to be there. That was the time when the hw and sw was new, the hw was high-tech, and the experience fresh and to a certain extent exclusive. Satellite tv was new and even more scarce, there were only a few airborne channels (1 here IIRC) and the computers got a much more central place in our...

Space Invaders. Pac-Man. Sorry, but they're both boring. There are other contemporaries that _are_ good, like Centipede and Galaga.

And there I was, thinking Bomb Jack was a nice game on the C= 64. Didn't know what I was missing out I guess.
Never was much for the music in Bombo though.

Re:

Just to give you a little insight into the cover, and the mag style overall... The take was to create a modern 're-imagined' retro gamer that would stand up alongside the console mags of today. That our beloved mag is a multi-format mag which just happens to cover computers and console formats not ...
