Re: Why I stopped reading Retro Gamer

Why should somebody buy something that doesn't interest them at that given moment in time? I think the point people are making is that if you subscribe, you could set fire to a third of the issues you get and still get better value than buying from the newsstands. And as for those who talk about 's...

Re: Why I stopped reading Retro Gamer

BUT what i dont get is when people flick through and think 'nah nothing for me this month' and dont buy it. I mean firstly its not exactly expensive is it for a subscription ? Yeah there might be a month or two where i think 'hmmm nothing takes my fancy' but then i'll give it a go and i'm surprised...

Re: ISSUE 82 - Official Feedback Thread

I don't get why you feel the need to put that "30 years and over" thing in the bottom corner.... Its like you're trying to alienate younger readers sometimes... Mario article is great, like most of the magazine... still don't see why homebrew heroes gets 4 pages but thats just me I guess... I'm sur...

Re: ISSUE 82 - Official Feedback Thread

But meh... Exactly. You can moan about something else next month ;) If there's anything you want to see though just let us know. Ah, but I was just asking a question, rather than moaning  Anyway, I made some suggestions to the 'Improving the magazine' thread, are any of those ideas runners? A...

Re: ISSUE 82 - Official Feedback Thread

I can completely see why this is a Mario issue and I think it is well justified (even though I can't stand him). I also hope other characters get a similar treatment when they reach such a ripe old age. But I do agree it 'feels' like there has been a lot of 'tendo lately, so am hoping the focus mov...

Re: ISSUE 82 - Official Feedback Thread

As for the Nintendo coverage? We're just responding to what people ask for. There's already more Amiga coverage going into the mag very soon (in addition to a few other features that have been requested and then people can complain about that. I'm guessing you are referring to people emailing/sendi...

Re: ISSUE 82 - Official Feedback Thread

Really nice touch on the cover, whether people hate Mario or love him it's a really novel idea - especially to do it at a time other than Christmas. Still, what's with all the Nintendo coverage of late? Last month we had the Pokemon mini, Rendering Ranger, Wizards & Warriors and Metroid articles, th...

Darran@Retro Gamer wrote:Why will it factor in to whether you buy the magazine?
I'm a subscriber, otherwise I would likely give it a miss, yes (much like I have with other issues in recent times - the Mario Kart and Metroid ones spring to mind).

But I only really asked because I'm curious - simple as that.

Re: Improving the magazine

Well I don't know about special, because we've once again been unable to speak to Miyamoto or anyone else related to the franchise. On the other hand Stuart is pretty good with these articles and we've also managed to speak to a number of developers including Ralph Baer, John Carmack, Trip Hawkins,...

Re: Improving the magazine

I'm just probably the only one who sees it and still bothers to buy the magazine and actually post about the discontent. Or perhaps you're the only one who sees it to this extent. Frankly, a word count is irrelevant anyway, since it takes things out of context. Robotron is mentioned a lot in Retro ...

Re: THQ has no sympathy

"Printed on the boxes" doesn't equate to "stickers", apart from the fact that stickers can be removed, misapplied or forgotten entirely, i'm assuming those particular ones were applied by whoever was reselling the game so the original purchaser wouldn't have known and they're just as entitled to th...

Re: THQ has no sympathy

My worry for the future can be summed up in a few points: 2. Secondary Concern: All Your Base Are Belong To Publisher. Publishers can't agree on anything, and are often run as Fiefdoms. I can't see Valve ever using Battlenet, neither will Microsoft ever use anyone other than themselves. So we'll ha...

Re: THQ has no sympathy

That's only true if the second hand users are warned before purchase that they'll be charged not only for the program but for online play. Hands up who expects large warnings printed on the boxes so that buyers can make an informed decision...? [Cynically watches tumbleweeds roll past.] I've seen s...

Re: THQ has no sympathy

Let's use the Music Industry as a convenient example. Way back in time the Music Industry thought we'd quite like to buy music. So they released Albums. Albums usually contained 10-14 different songs. Now, not every song on the albums were of "quality" but since the album required at least 10 songs...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 80

I know it's too late for the mag, but Cossacks was a pretty good RTS if I remember correctly - lots of scenarios, farily large all-encompassing campaign, lots of troops to play with. Never played the second game though.
