Re: UK Nes original owners

Got a NES in 92. I was aware of the SMS but I don't remember there being a lot of buzz about consoles. Chose the NES after playing SMB on a Playchoice 10 in a pub. i was a real Atari fanboy until I encountered the NES. I gave the 7800 a chance a few years later but there wasn't much available for i...

Re: UK Nes original owners

For me the biggest thing I saw as an advantage for the mega drive was the headphone port and volume controller for it! I remember being well excited and playing all the games with headphones just because you could. Again was well lucky that our Dad got that near enough on release, used to be in his ...

Re: UK Nes original owners

Nice to see that it wasn't just me and that there were other areas of anomalies! I noticed that bitmap books are doing a kickstarter for the nes which was part of what promoted this post, that combined with the recent nes issue of retro gamer and that seems to have had an overwhelming response from ...

Re: From The Forum issue 157 - Reasons To Love The N64

Got the n64 for xmas (96 or whenever the first xmas it was out) and had already arranged with a friend who was also getting one to bring his two pads round mine on the 27th, about 7 or 8 of us took turns playing 4 playing Goldeneye and iss64 for about 10 hours until my mum got sick of us and threw u...

Re: UK Nes original owners

Wasn't Corby often used as a sort of distribution point for a lot of stuff back in the 70s & 80s? Heck, if memory serves me correctly, the Commordore 16 was even manufactured there. It was actually my family's first computer - and looking back I'm guessing that someone in my family down that way (Y...

Re: UK Nes original owners

Never even saw an NES in the eighties let alone play one. In 1990, consoles in general really became a big deal in Britain, and the Turtles pack - advertised in 'Complete Guide To Consoles III' from September 1990- pushed the NES big time, though understandably, many people by then weren't keen on ...

Re: XCOM 2

So excited this is finally coming to consoles. Not had a PC in years as mine died and I get a laptop through work so could never justify buying a machine of my own. I remember first playing this series on the Amiga CD32 and being utterly in love with it since, the reboot on the 360 is one of my favo...

Re: UK Nes original owners

Hey I loved our Amstrad! We had a green screen one for years before the nes, and later on after we had the nes we got a colour one that had a console slot although only ever had burning rubber for it. I imagine our getting of that colour model (which I know was an incredible amount of money from Kay...

Re: UK Nes original owners

You and your friends were very lucky to have relatively affluent parents with an interest in gaming, a far from common circumstance. Corby is far from affluent which is what I find strange about the nes price when it's discussed as being an expensive machine, as a kid you aren't really aware of tha...

Re: UK Nes original owners

I used the word revisionist as that was how this months mag opened, I am aware of the truth of the matter with sales however there seems to almost be a sneery attitude towards the nes and this idea that no one owned them and people going on about them now are looking back to the era rather than havi...

UK Nes original owners

I am always interested to see the idea of the nes and the idea and comments of it's revisionist history, I frequently see sites such as this and podcasts talking about how the nes dominated the u.s market but not the uk, however it makes me wonder if anyone seemed to experience totally the opposite,...

Re: Issue 155

Loved the issue but totally disagree with the article from PDavies about the modern consoles and the upgrades, he has a point with patches, put Halo5 in the other day and in addition to the 25+ gb disc install there was a 20gb update! However not sure how he can make the point about modern consoles ...

Re: What game/s do you think got unfairly reviewed?

Wasn't it full of bugs though? I remember this videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J8SzBhjqaQ Two games that spring to mind for me. Die Hard Arcade on Saturn got 61% or something around that in the sega saturn magazine, which seems insane as I reckon it's one of the systems best games and one t...

Football podcast special - particularly Sega

So I don't always post when we update episodes, as we are not strictly retro. However the 2nd league/leg of our football special seemed to turn into a massive Sega fanboy episode! So thought it might be of more interest. Most apps will find it or iTunes if you put Invert Y however directs are below ...
