Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 170

Thats the thing that surprises me - there are people who come on here each month and say the mag doesn't cover enough things they are familiar with, so therefore its not a good issue for them. For me its the opposite - I love reading about things that are completely new to me, particularly love the...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 170

Reading the article on the obscure publisher/dev now. Must say I love to read the histories of these small and obscure parts of history! :D

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 170

Its the Dreamcast cut off point, Some are in favour of the ten years rule But that does now mean the Wii/360/PS3 are retro FECK THAT!! Myself, I go for the two gens back as a general rule. In the end, the elitism on this forum can be a bit too much. Retro is not a thing only for the people 40+, or ...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

News on Super Mario Oddysey: You cannot get Game Over! “If Mario’s health drops to zero, or if he falls down a bottomless pit, you’ll lose 10 of your coins. But…! No matter how many times you’ll mess up, there’s never a game over.” And yet coins are, quite clearly, present in abundance in Super Mari...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 169

Boy is that front page ugly. :P I love the retro look, but there was a time in the 90s that didn't hold itself well. ;)

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

The FIFA 18 trailer currently has game sites tripping over themselves to point out the Switch version is minus the story mode and runs on its own engine instead of Frostbite. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me but are people still thinking the Switch is going to get directly comparable ports fro...

Re: Retro Gamer 168

I'm just going to weigh in with regards to the readability of the magazine. It's very hard to gauge how serious this issue actually is because no one apart from a few members on the forum complain about it to us. No complaints filter down to us from social media or other parts of the company, so al...

Re: Retro Gamer 168

Half-Life 2 seems too new to be in the mag, perhaps it still holds up well today. Heh, I'm reading back issues from 2006/2007 right now. And they treat N64 as retro then. HL2 came out in 2004, 13 years ago. N64 was "active" from 1996 to 2000ish. I think we old guys need to get new glasses.

Re: From The Forum issue 169 - 3D Games

I think my first 3D game was Wolfenstein 3D, then DOOM, but I don't think I realized the shift was really inevitable before I saw Mario 64 for the first time. What a game.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Next question. I went to the store on my Switch. There's an option to view new releases. There's an option to view chart releases. That seems to be it. No A-Z browsing of the back catalogue? Only an option to search for a title if you already know it exists? Go to search. Click on the options (can ...

Re: The Rise and Fall of Command & Conquer

First taste I had was RA1 I think, closely followed or predated by the original C&C1. Tiberian Sun was the first I owned myself though, and how I loved it! Played it so much, but never managed to beat the later levels. Loved the destroyable terrain, something many at the time critizised due to the h...

Re: Retro Gamer 167

Loved the last mag, as always. One thing though, after I finished this load, I went back to one of the old back issues (I do this between issues, almost through them all now after a few years of doing this. Digital is superb way of doing this!). And I notice two things, related but one good one bad:...

Re: Future acquire Imagine

The new iPad app has its ups and downs. Slick look, I love that I'm not sent to the front page of the mag I'm reading when reopening the app anymore. But boy is the app much slower than before the update! My iPad 2 is old, but it has worked fine for my only remaining use for it; reading RetroGamer's...
