Re: Emuparadise Shuts Up Shop

I think a lot of Retro Gamers were on to these kind of threats since the scene got going at the turn of the century and built up their CD/DVD collections with all the ROMS just in case they got taken down (I know I did).

Re: IRC Retro Gaming Chat 9pm Sunday August 19th

It's the same as before folks, as we start up at 9pm this Sunday and hope to attract fans of the golden era of gaming. I've asked Suzanne Martin whether she would come on and tell us her favourite Spectrum games as a tribute to her wonderful new Vega+ device, and I'm hopeful she will, because she ga...

Re: What did you prefer: cassettes or 5¼" floppies?

Sticking a CPU in the drive was very much a cost-saving measure at the time because dedicated disk controller chips were about ten times the price. However, there's nothing inherently wrong with having a serial connection to the drive. Commodore drives were just slow because they used a very ineffi...

Re: IRC Retro Gaming Chat 9pm Sunday August 12th

Quite an unusual number of "characters" came on last night, some briefly and with little to say! Next time, don't be shy! Yeah I suppose I am unusual  We can only hope the unusual characters come on again- some from many many moons ago- that we saw last week. Sir Clive was the bigges...

Re: IRC Retro Gaming Chat 9pm Sunday August 5th

I was just about to post - yes from 9pm tonight, the fun begins once again as we try and figure out who the anon guest is that seems to appear every week. Use the link in my signature to join and we can argue about all sorts of things. It will be beautiful, I promise ;)

Re: Europe's largest arcade - in Bury !

Really liked that controller on Arkanoid, the dial kinda thing. Sure i used to just play it with the trackball before and wasnt there a version with buttons ? Which was a nightmare to use. Plays way too fast for an old timer like myself though, not great at it but loved the home ports The Spectrum ...

Re: Europe's largest arcade - in Bury !

Arkanoid was on floor 3 Had a weird dial controller. Where the restaurant/tuck shop with the 3 pinball machines. The sofas and original crazy kong there was 5 cabs against the wall. Track and Field, Burgertime, Arkanoid and 2 others A lot of that stuff is still in the bar area - Burgertime, Galaga,...

With tech problems its best to tell someone behind the bar and they can get a techy type to fix it

There is also a few classic cabs on the 2nd floor, one is Jungle hunt
Oh no! I thought they were all on the third floor! What were the other ones?

Re: IRC Retro Gaming Chat 9pm Sunday July 29th

Indeed, we were briefly visited by another mystery man with a name I can't repeat here, but it was before I arrived so I wasn't able to offer him my thanks for turning up. We actually talked about old videogames because of my jaunt to Bury... how about that?!?? Let us hope that the beauty can contin...

Re: Europe's largest arcade - in Bury !

I was in Bury this weekend and visited the Arcade Club. It truly is mammoth and has absolutely tons of classics. It wasn't too busy either, and the food/drink bar has better prices than you would get for any event. There was too much about it that was good to go into here, so I'll mention the little...

Re: IRC Retro Gaming Chat 9pm Sunday July 29th

We are back to the weekend, and I have decided to spend it the way any proper retrogamer would- be visiting the Arcade Club in Bury! It's also a personal ambition of mine to go down there. It's the usual bucket list of exotic places: Rio, Acapulco, Paris, Cairo, Florida (sscott beat me to that one) ...

Re: Spectrum Vega Plus Poll

Sigh...the inevitable 'shipping this week!' update has arrived right on cue for the next meeting. This time, they claim '400' have been sent out last week to those that have kept the faith...their most loyal supporters. And this apparently, proves all the haters, all the naysayers wrong. So...just ...

Re: Save our forum!

I only went to look at retro canteen tonight and it's vanished? Think I only posted there once or twice. It's a shame if that's gone. I still like the RG forum but there ain't many people about. Facebook is terrible for gaming chat. I'm a member of a few groups and it's overwhelming to the point of...

Re: Save our forum!

Retro Collect is run by Flatapex whom many will know from here in the past. I mentioned before though that it's 16 bit upwards for the most part which is a pity because there are a lot of posters on there, assumed names or otherwise. Probably Atariage is the biggest and most active and covers absolu...

I like Retro collect, have not had much to do with Retro canteen and Atariage seems ok but full of people who think they are gods gift because they have done a bit of programming.
