Re:

So...you like the story, find the gameplay 'refreshing' and your sole argument for it being 'broken' is that you control the FPS sections with the analogue sticks. Hmmm. An intriguing and ultimately pointless argument. Add it to the list of broken games like Half-Life and Timesplitters 2 then. I th...

No, they're on XBLA because people remember them being really good. Then they play them and realise that they're actually not.
Well, that's your opinion, fair enough, but that's quite a patronising thing to say. I've played these games quite recently and thought they were great.

Re:

Graphics don't make a game, gameplay does. However, technically it's possible to do things now that weren't possible before and nobody can deny that there have been great new ideas and advancements in gameplay over the years, try playing pac-man or galaga on XBLA to see how pants they actually are....

In general, games twenty years ago were based more on pure skill and strategy than today, and that's why I prefer them.

I think just one guy was responsible for it all, and he was paid a cool $1m on finishing the product.

The 2600 version of Pacman is still very playable, and on game variation 6 with difficulty level A, it's pretty tough too. I still fire it up from time to time, but it isn't as good as Ms Pacman.

Re:

Gaming is a form of entertainment, no more or less so than the likes of movies, music and reading books. Each one is completely different, but much like a movie with no ending, a song which ends before the chorus, or a book with the last five pages unprinted, a game that promises a conclusion but f...

Re:

Have to say I'm with revgiblet on this one. It's just plain common sense when you take the time to see from the angle we're looking at it from. JSW may be a good game to play, but without the possibility of reaching the 'GOAL' or in other words, completing the game, how can it be classed as a true ...

In the old days, it would not be an exagerration to say that it was perceived as a weakness if a game could be completed! It's so different now, as games are basically interactive movies. JSW is not one of those - it was great because of the locations. Seeing the new screens and what was in them was...

Re:

GGGNNNHHHHH! JET SET WILLY IS NOT A HIGH SCORE GAME! That's a fair enough comment for games that were about setting a high score, but as a blanket attitude to a game because it was made in the 80s it's a ridiculous thing to say. Jet Set Willy had a clearly defined goal. Making it impossible to reac...

Re:

Yes. And? Well plenty of old games were written by one or two people and had bugs in. One of my favourites, Frankie Goes to Hollywood can't be completed on the Spectrum either. These days a one-man game wouldn't even get a release. Quite true, but my point is that surely it's nonsense to call a gam...

I played Galaxian recently having really enjoyed all the various console versions (Atari 2600, Colecovision, Gameboy) and couldn't stand it! I found the movement of the baddies to be annoying as hell as I kept missing the buggers when I shot at them. It seemed to be pretty unforgiving computered to ...

Re:

I have a boxed one sitting on my shelf along with around 15 boxed games. It's a crap machine with crap games.... but I like it... What famous console does it share most in common with, in terms of games and graphics? Is it an Atari 2600 cash-in, or is it more like a copycat Intellivision but ...

Acetronic MPU2000

I saw one of these beasts in Gamestation today. From what I've read, it's some old console from circa 1979. It had a few cartridges with it like Space War, which looked interesting in a Fairchild Channel F sorta way. Pretty obscure looking.
Has anyone here played this "games" machine?
