Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

What bugs me with candy crush is that the strategic elements of trying to set up matches of more than three sweets and also trying to combine the resulting bonuses can be really satisfying, but the farther I push into the game it seems my attempts at strategy are increasingly overshadowed by luck. I...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Kind of ashamed to admit it, but lately I've been playing Candy Crush Saga. It's a bit frustrating though, because it's potentially a very good game, but it's marred by an uneven difficulty level and by success vs failure being too heavily influenced by random elements ... presumably all part of the...

Re: Questions about upgrading a PC

If it makes you feel any better.... I've just bought a GTX770 for £359 :o (My beasty PC was feeling down after the GTX470 blew up a few days ago!!! ) Phwoar, what an absolute beast of a gpu. Can't imagine how games must fly on that thing. I'm using a mighty... *drumroll* ...GT520 ;) However I've ju...

Ha, that'd suit me. I already use the self-checkout when available so I can talk on my phone without some cashier giving me the stink eye. ;)

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

Targeted advertising is all up in your browser and has been for ages. AdSense is showing you a load of stuff you recently looked at to buy but, again, how much attention do we pay to it? Virtually all ads are blocked in my browser, and have been for years. I still get google ads with some search re...

Re: Sainsbury's phone incident

While we're on the subject of supermarkets, do people ever get the cashier to 'pack for them ?'. Here in oz the cashier packs it for you by default at the big supermarkets. You have to actually tell them if you want to pack it yourself. Sometimes I've said I'll do it myself, but they have their lit...

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

What I'd really object to is and advert for shampoo, burgers, crisps, etc. Showing me other games is no problem at all. I hope that's all it is on the PS4. Same here. If either of these consoles turns out to be plastered with straight up ads as opposed to less jarring 'game of the week' style promo...

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

@Nemesis I agree, but that's the thing: if the kinect was an optional extra, the chances of devs actually realising that potential would be drastically reduced. Why go to all the trouble and expense if only X% of the userbase has a kinect? But yeah, the whole kinect v2 concept would be way easier to...

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

@slacey The press demo videos where members of the press were allowed to interact with it were the ones I found interesting. They're just tech demos to show what it can pick up, rather than games, but it's pretty impressive. Eg, this video, from around the 2 minute mark: https://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

@koopa, but so far the only Kinect you've used has been the 360 kinect, with all its 1st-gen-tech jumpy armwavy catscaring gimmickry. The new kinect being bundled with the xbone appears to have a greater range of potential. And apparently it can work in a smaller space than the 360 kinect. @RodimusP...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Thanks for update about new releases, psj. Pleased to see Limbo on the ipad. Played through that on PC last year. Very memorable game. Bought Bastion a while back and never really played it. Did the old 'ooh, this looks like it could be good. I'll save it for later when I have more time.' ...months ...

Re: The Microsoft Must Die discussion thread.

Personally, I'm not dismissing Kinnect out of hand, it's just that MS hasn't demonstrated why its essential to gaming (as yet), which is why I would buy a console. Not all the media gubbins. Yeah, I agree that MS aren't doing great job of selling the concept. The videos I've seen of the new kinect ...

Re: Original xbox names revealed

Apparently the number two choice for the console’s name was 11-X or Eleven-X, a reference to the fact that console used the DirectX 11 API that was also used in Windows PCs at the time.
I guess the original xbox was sent back in time from 2009?
