Re: Defining PC Games

PC games? That is defined as before or after Wolfenstein 3D. Before you could get the same games in worse or better shape on Random Platform XYZ. After you had to go PC for any "into the screen" game (aka FPS style). Sadly (as an Amiga afficionado) the world seemed to follow a decree that that was ...

Re: Defining PC Games

I'd like to put up one more game, if nobody minds. Not nearly as popular as the other three I mentioned, but still very much worth mentioning. Little backstory here: In the days of the PC, 1994, to be exact, there wasn't much choice for fighting games. The only good Street Fighter 2 port wouldn't hi...

Re: Great Videogame Bosses

The final boss from Sonic & Knuckles. After getting through four and a half games of contraption after contraption, you finally make it to the Death Egg, and Robotnik has gone from a ineffectual fat man to... well, this. http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/1264/256707-s_k_29.gif That's not the look...

Re: Defining PC Games

Three games spring to mind for me, honestly: Duke Nukem. The original, long, long before all the strippers and the one-liners, back when all Duke wanted to do was kill a mad scientist so he could go home and watch Oprah. It was hardly the first of the platformers on the PC, but what it did do was pr...

Re: Strange/annoying design decisions

For me, it'd be the Gamecube controller. It just feels so... limited, I guess, compared to any other controller near it. You can't push in the analog stick, the face button are arranged in such a weird angle, and it's basically missing something on the other end of the Z button on the top, which mea...

Re: Game you looking forward to most in 2013

Metal Gear Solid Revengeance - I will admit I've never been much of a fan of the MGS games, but the way this looks, along with Platinum's involvement, probably means I'll definately be playing it somewhere down the line. Especially getting to try out all those fancy cutting physics. Injustice - Gods...

Re: Freedom Planet: Sonic ala Treasure, Sonic style indie ga

Was going to put it on my "Im interested" till these words What you listed, its like a massive begging service with no guarantee of results for a start No guarantee about results? What about the demo, for starters? I mean, there are a lot of Kickstarters out there that get anywhere, even a few that...

Freedom Planet: Sonic ala Treasure, Sonic style indie game

So, there's been a game in development for a while, called Freedom Planet. Early on, it started off as a game set in the Sonic universe, with new characters. Eventually, though, it split off into its own thing entirely, with the character design and gameplay mechanics changed around to be just a bit...

Re: Much more DOS and old PC gaming coverage please!!

I think half the reason people don't care is that PC's have no personality what so ever. They have been made for years by hundreds of manufacturers, constantly upgraded and are still around now. They are not like the ST, Amiga, Spectrum, Commodore 64 etc. They don't have any individuality or single...

Re: Do any of you still watch Retro Cartoons?

I've actually got the DVD to Swat Kats, a really awesome show that went surprisingly far with the violence. I mean, they actually killed people. Not that it was the only show in the 90's that let the heroes get away with that, but it's still pretty badass. It also has pretty much the most metal as c...

we need much less DOS and old PC coverage, not more Care to elucidate why, or are you just trolling? Tch, you expect people to be able to back up their opinions? Clearly that'd be ENTIRELY too much trouble! Having reasons for liking or disliking things is for dorks. Now work faster, drone, that Mat...

Re: Much more DOS and old PC gaming coverage please!!

I agree entirely there needs to be much, much more DOS and PC coverage. It'd be a nice change from hearing about Manic Miner, or Dizzy, or some other Spectrum game in every issue. It'd be nice to have a change, and you know what? The fact that not many people around here know about DOS would only ma...
