Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Yes it is. Look at the pictures. They're at identical heights, where almost but not quite all of the centre circle fits onto the screen. If the overall pitch size is different, that's nothing to do with the VIEWPOINT. It's about the same height, only the proportions are totally different, in MS pla...

Re: For the mag: Commodore 64 memories

Got it for Christmas in 1987. I had a C16 that I couldn't wait to get rid of to switch to the C64. I somehow feel a bit guilty towards the old C16 and sometimes I think it would have been good to have kept it. But losing it meant getting the C64... it was for a good cause :) Before getting the 64 I ...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Except it wasn't amateurish, bad or shallow. Stuart doesn't write like that. You don't like the feature because one of your precious games got trashed. I understand that, but don't make out it was something that it wasn't. We've still not seen any proof yet of proper factual mistakes other than the...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Did you know that stuart wasn't a fan before you read it? It was pretty obvious from the start, I don't read only things written by people who think like me, and I think it's pretty clear that the point is not that an article on game X can be only written by someone who likes game X. I didn't expec...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Good grief. The original point was that previous football games had used totally different perspectives. The point within that isn't the overhead view, it's the DISTANCE of the overhead view. (Kick Off's is almost identical to Microprose Soccer's. Sensi's is much higher up.) This discussion is gett...

Into the Eagle's Nest (1987)

And no, it doesn't look like football. But clearly Kick Off is an Into the Eagle's Nest rip-off... isn't it?

Exactly.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012

Well if you are after omens, Greece beat Northern Ireland at home in the final game of the qualifiers for 2004 & went on to win it. Spain beat Northern Ireland at home in the final game of the qualifiers for 2008 & went on to win it. Italy beat Northern Ireland at home in the final game of the qual...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

So to sum up. You love Kick Off and don't like our article. That could have been addressed 20 odd pages ago :) As I said, I like KO, like KO2 a bit more (even if when I load a KO game, more often it's KO1), I really liked Player Manager. Don't really like the other games of the franchise, the ones ...

Re: UEFA Euro 2012

I hadn't seen the "comic strip" with Balo. Surely not funny. Gazzetta later apologised, but they could have been more careful and considerate in the first place. Yesterday we started slow and missed too many chances in the second half, we can't afford to do the same against the Spaniards. We'll see ...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

I really wouldn't want to belabour this any longer, but since I've criticised the article in the first place, I have read it again and I'll make some points. Note: my points are mainly on the first games, the ones developed by Dino Dini, I think those were the "true" KOs that were treated unfairly, ...

Re: UEFA Euro 2012

oh my... oh my God!! But wasn't the final certain to be Germany - Spain?! :D And tonight's result means that for us on sunday it will be a semi-final already. Because if there's one thing that the history of football teaches, it's that we always beat the germans   ...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Ridge Racer Unbounded, finished the first races... mixed feelings. Graphics are good and mayhem can be rewarding, but difficulty is sometimes unfair, locations seem all similar and most of all... it's not Ridge Racer :?

Re: UEFA Euro 2012

so the eurozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz carries on...I actually really want the Germans to win. Yeah, more and more people I know, even my dad, have said they want the Germans to win, or that they'd support Germany in the final if it was against Spain (this was before last night's match). Nobody loves us :( ...

Re: Decay of data on floppies and tapes

Yes, luckily the Amiga has WHDLoad, a true blessing. And not supported games are getting less all the time. And for my C64, I have stored the floppies away (none of them had shown signs of failure yet) and use 1541 Ultimate, a bit pricey but works great. So, for C64 and Amiga I'm confident I'll be a...

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Maybe i was off the mark, but even 1/2 million sales were big number back then as Darren implied, but that doesnt cover up the fact it was in the charts for weeks through word of mouth and great magazine reviews through the board, if you liked it or not. Nobody was denying that. But Kick Off/KO2 ha...
