If anyone is interested the Nottingham branch still has a reasonable selection of retro stuff - although it is dwindling fast. There's a lot of PSone and N64 stuff, quite a large Saturn selection and a load of loose SNES carts (including Super Castlevania IV). They also have a few titles for the Meg...

The Amiga was launched not long after the ST, but prior to the release of the game-centric A500 model the Amiga was marketed (and priced) as a business machine (much as the C64 had been before it). So the ST did get an early lead but when the A500 did come out it immediately deposed the ST as the co...

Well, X3 has better graphics...I liked Privateer a lot, but it's true that few, if any, space trading games can stand up to Elite. Frontier was a very good sequel and it added realistic physics. We are still waiting for Elite 4, but I doubt it will be coming any time soon, or at all. The problem wi...

But like Elite, this is a tiny minority. The amazing thing about Elite is that it has genuinely never been improved on. A lot of the big name UK games of the 80s and 90s (Manic Miner, Sensible Soccer), whilst they were exceptional at the time, have since been totally superceded. Elite I still don't...

It's not so important that it's a deal breaker, but I do take notice. For example if I see a certain game on the shelf and there are copies for both the Megadrive and SNES, I'll usually take whichever has the nicer box art (providing they're not the same, obviously) unless there's a discernable diff...

A little OT I suppose but what do people think of the Jaguar controller? They have a reputation for being so bad they're borderline-unusable, but I always thought they were pretty comfy. Maybe I just have big hands or something, because I also liked the Saturn analogue controller, the Dreamcast pad ...

The problem, if you can call it that, with UK game design was that it was all based around churning out cheap and cheerful games put together by bedroom coders for the early 80s micros. Some of the stuff they did was amazing (Elite, Manic Miner) but it was always obvious that the industry would move...

I remember in 94/95 desperately wanting a Jaguar for reasons that escape me totally now. Luckily I ended up with a Saturn for Christmas. Having played some of the games on the Jag my brother bought a few years ago I think I got off very lightly. 3DO I remember never being that fussed about. It just ...

Hate to come across as an 'anti Sony fanboy' again, but I know someone that's bricked a PSP. Admittedly he's hardly an electronics genius, but surely the very definition of 'idiot proof' is that he shouldn't have to be? In the interests of balance I also know two people who have successfully modded ...

I too had Amiga SEUCK. I made several games on it: Robin Hood - The first game I did. Each level was a single screen affair where you had to kill the enemies (soldiers, skeletons) before the timer ran out. The last level was a push scrolling section where you had to fight through the castle and kill...

By no means are all those games Nintendo ones though. Specifically Castlevania (Capcom), Phoenix Wright (Capcom), Dragon Ball (Atari) , Dragon Quest (Square Enix), Another Code(Cing), Dewy's (Komani), Lunar Knights(Konami) and Cooking Mama (Taito) are all little to do with Nintendo, in fact the onl...

...sigh. ;) Sony will win. It's a fact. When the Xbots and the Nintendo fags start gnashing of teeth and covering themselves in ash, because their consoles get trounced again, just remember -- I called it. Good luck! Saying something will happen this time just because it's happened in the past is a...
