Re: Hampstead on IOS

Great stuff!! Glad to see I am not the only one who wants to write text adventures for the iPhone :-D Have just released Artic's Adventure A - Planet of Death a day or so ago to the App Store. Trying to use a UI to allow the actions to be parsed without the use of the virtual keyboard. https://itune...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Am always fascinated by the premise of taking an older game and re-imagining it without the restrictions that the original developers had. Would love to look at games that couldn't make the cut of ambition on the original attempt, like "The Great Space Race" to see if it could be made the game it wa...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

If you want to relive those text adventure glory years, an update of Artic's Adventure A - Planet of Death has been released for the iPhone and iPad. It is still text only with much more descriptive text (not too hard given the sparseness of the original) and some extra locations and puzzles. The UI...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Have been playing a lot of Adventure A - Planet of Death that has been released on the iPhone. It has a UI that allows the text adventure to be played without a keyboard. Is text only... :D

Re: Adventuring through the Ages

Have had to re-create Part 1 after iMovie messed up it up; the first draft for the second part has now been completed, so now it is onto the clip capture...

Re: Official Feedback Issue 99

That is fab, thanks. :-)

Didn't remember the article had already appeared in retrogamer... d'oh. No arguments on IK+, that was a serious time-sink. Wouldn't it be cool if SFIV or Soul Calibur had an additional fighter mode and a back flip?

Re: Official Feedback Issue 99

Hmmmmm - I remember seeing Exploding Fist before any other fighter for quite a while... it also surpassed Karate Champ in my own humble opinion (although it did steal the bull knock-out, which was unfortunately absent from the Speccy version - another point for the C64 vs Speccy unfortunately). It m...

Re: Adventuring through the Ages

Thanks for the reply and your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it; it was kinda tricky to work out how to show enough of the adventure without it becoming too tedious; Lords of Midnight has so much more in it than I mention. I am about to work on Part 2 which will cover far more interesting looking ...

Adventuring through the Ages

Hi,

I've posted my own, personal view on the evolution of text adventures to fill in the large gaps left by the documentary Get Lamp at the following address:

Any feedback from the guys on a retro site would be most welcome :-)

Re: Official Feedback Issue 99

Have just received my copy here in Melbourne a couple of days ago; best cover ever :-D 3D Monster Maze was a revelation for when I owned by ZX81; the first (and one of the few) to really cause me to panic while playing. The only feedback I have is on the 5 Most Important Games for the C64; I realise...

Re: Issue 95 Official Feedback

Hi, Really liked the article on Bubble Bobble, but there is a couple of issues I have with the details. It was not the first 2 player arcade game - Space Duel comes to mind and that was released in 1982 (great game btw if you haven't played it). Also on the Atari ST and Amiga releases, the bubbles o...

Re: What is it with the term Gamer??

I really grate at the term Hardcore Gamer; seems like a mixed metaphor. I have watched a lot of movies (and I mean a lot) including finding the commentaries on DVDs really interesting (sometimes) but I would never call myself a Hardcore Film Watcher. Thinking about it, mainly due to the implications...

Re: Is there a decent version of the original Virtua Fighter

Not sure I agree that the first Virtua Fighter is arse because it has been superceded. Kinda defeats the purpose of a lot of the discussions on this site... I played it at the Game On exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed it, somewhat more so than the VF5 I am currently playing on the xbox 360. I have n...

Re: Is there a decent version of the original Virtua Fighter

I do have that one, unfortunately the Saturn is currently packed away. Maybe I should dig it out and have a nostalgia weekend with games like Shinobi X.
