Re: PC Love?

For those experiencing difficulties with getting games to work on their PC, I always found that http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ was handy. Of course, laptops are not built, and generally shouldn't be used, for games outside of older releases. Unless you've got one of those hyper-expensive...

Re: PC Love?

Another 'hell yeah' for some PC love! As a dedicated PC gamer from the fifth gen to the beginning of the current gen, and with some fond memories dating back earlier than that, I'd be happy with some attention to some of the greatest gaming experiences of all time in a future edition of the mag! The...

Re: Your own gaming evolution

My gaming 'evolution' has been more like a 'devolution' really. The first video game I ever played was on my parents' Dragon 32 . I can barely remember it, but I think it was some kind of Space Invaders knock-off - it's still in their loft actually, so I'll have to dig it out and see if I can't appr...

Re: So, who doesn't give a crap about Zelda?

I've played a few of the more modern Zeldas, from OoT to Twilight Princess on the home consoles, and I've found them to be technically polished, lovingly-crafted games with lofty goals and decent executions. From a critical point there's little to fault them on, other than some degree of repetition ...

Re: Carmageddon being brought back to life??

I loved Carmageddon on DOS. I played that to death, and was rewarded with a police tank. And then I played it to death some more. If they make a new one (that I can actually get running), which sticks fully to the principles of the first game but with the graphics of a modern game, I'd be all over i...

I've ditched retro in favour of L.A. Noire for the time being. And... YES! Oh yes!

Let us not forget that smug, patronising, repetitious Tannoy announcement... "THE HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR IS CHEATING! THE HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR IS CHEATING!"

Re: What was your first "wow" moment

The earliest one I can remember is seeing Chuck Yeager's Air Combat on a PC after playing a mismatched combination of Zork and 2D games up until that point. The notion of being able to fly anywhere in a fully three-dimensional environment was amazing to me at the time. Now it looks like crud, obviou...

Re: The worst game ever.

Daikatana, of course, and also Starship Troopers for the PC. I picked that one up thinking it'd be fun to have a blast on it every once in a while. It had no redeeming features of any kind whatsoever at all. Not even slightly.

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I've picked up Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Batman Returns for the Mega Drive, Folklore and Eternal Sonata for the PS3. Oh, and Virtua Fighter 5 for the 360.

So much for saving money.

Re: Miles "Tails" Prower

He's at his worst in the Chemical Plant boss fight; he'll hit Robotnik a split-second before you, causing you to pass straight through him and splash to your death.

He should only be active when there are two players! Never alone - he is a homicidal maniac and he will try to kill you!

Re: Favorite obscure game?

A bit more recent than most of the offerings here, and perhaps not very obscure so much as under-appreciated, but I have three favourites that nobody else has really played: Startopia, by Mucky Foot, is one of the most charming and funny games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It's one of the f...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Clive Barker's Undying. 90% more atmospheric than most games released before or since, despite being 40% more ugly than most games released at the time, and 85% more ghosts than the mansion at Alton Towers.

Re: More Sega VC Releases - Oh Sega :(

If Sega released another console tomorrow, I would be in the queue at the launch event. However, I'd imagine that the queue would be reasonably small. Sega hardware didn't make business sense when the Saturn was relegated to a distant third place in the console wars of that generation. The Dreamcast...
