Re: PS3 collecting

Limited Editions are nice and all, but I was talking about strictly picking up games you want to PLAY, and nothing else. If you don't care about moe pillows or whatnot and just want to play Hyperdimensional Neptunia, for instance. I find the best way to determine value of genres is to look at PS2 ga...

Re: Games you could never complete

This weekend, Valkyria Chronicles. PS3 YLOD on me on chapter 17, can't get the save file out. Last backup save was about 11 chapters ago. :(

It may be a while before I attempt to replay those 11 chapters again. That's like 2 dozen hours ago.

Re: Best GBA games?

It's amazing how vast and how much of a dynamite software library they have despite the GBA's lifespan being considerably shorter than either the original GB's or even the DS'.

Re: PS3 collecting

Usually it is exclusives, titles that were reviewed unfairly or low print runs at the end of a consoles life that push prices up. Not too many games I can find that are worth much. Finally picked up the last of us, also looking at 3D dot heroes and the smash bros clone with playstation people in. W...

Re: PS3 collecting

The time to PS3 binge collect is now, while there's a small window where collectors haven't driven up prices of certain games yet. So if there's a niche game out there you need, you want to target those first, rather than the Tomb Raiders, Dark Souls and Uncharteds that you can get anytime and won't...

Re: What classic game are you struggling to find?

Physical shops only? There are games I can't AFFORD, but very few I haven't seen at least once in person. I would say that I would like a copy of PS1 Rhapsody A Musical Adventure NTSC. It's not worth a huge amount, and I've only ever seen one copy in person, but it was priced about $10 higher than ...

Re: Nintendo Finally Releases 80s NES game outside Japan

This is a pretty well known game in the NES emulation community. It's like the Legend of Zelda, except even harder.

Re: PC Engine Wins

I like my Turbografx a lot and have the must-have import adapter, but I'd struggle to put it over either of the others. It was a fantastic generation all-round, really. Wonder why Neo-Geo never gets talked about much? It blew away all other home systems at the time and actually had Arcade-pe...

Re: Do you add scanlines when not using a CRT?

But the DC versions look great via VGA on a flat screen. Without scanlines. If you're talking about Capcom's 2D games on VGA, that's debatable. I think the Capcom games with high res backgrounds, like Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2, can look good in VGA, but even for those games the vast ma...

Re: Do you add scanlines when not using a CRT?

Depends on your definition of 'higher quality'. If having black lines across your image is your idea of quality, who am I to argue ;) Because these high end monitors displayed a crisper image with better color separation and sharper clarity, the scanlines inherent in a CRT display are more prominen...

Re: Do you add scanlines when not using a CRT?

We're coming at this from different angles then. Your devs are designing for ropey arcade monitors, the artists I've read interviewed (back in the day and now) were designing for lovely PAL TVs, so we're both right :D Yeah, when talking scanlines options, I was thinking that the discussion here mos...

Re: Do you add scanlines when not using a CRT?

Right, the "scanlines" on a CRT help give the pixelly images form and volume. Basically, it acts like a grid. Don't think that game developers didn't realize this as well. The graphics were never meant to be shown "as is". As I mentioned before, these pixelly graphics needed a grid to help polish o...

Re: Do you add scanlines when not using a CRT?

It's funny when talking about scanlines as if they are a part of gaming. They aren't at all! (Not saying that is specifically what is happening here) However, I absolutely love the look of them. It's not just nostalgia, a 240p image just looks more rounded on a proper CRT and scanlines are the main...
