Re: Which was really better - 64 or ZX?
You do have to wonder how this is still an argument though, there was one game which defined 80s 8-bit gaming. It sat in the charts for, well basically forever. And that game was Robocop. If you didn't play Robocop, didn't sweat it out all the way to the end to blast censored Jones out of the window...

Re: Which was really better - 64 or ZX?
Don't forget the "king of 8 bits" - the amazing Amstrad GX 4000. If only that came with a green screen monitor. Man, what I would have given to own one of them.    It was released far too late and a total market failure, but the hardware itself was actually pretty cool. If you ...

Re: Why were Spectrum games cheaper?
Very few. Sounds like he hasn't played many Spectrum games. I had a Spectrum from '82 all the way up to the publication of the Big Final Issue of YS and been and active member of CSS and WoS since then, I can assure you I've played more than a few Speccy games. As well as written some over the year...

Re: Why were Spectrum games cheaper?
Also, like I already said, you can compare the 6128 instead if you like (which must be comparable even in your mind surely?) and it makes zero difference. It still has the same 3 channel sound chip and the Spectrum still has 4 channels to play with (3 for music and 1 for sound effects). It's an eno...

By instead attempting to monopolize the online distribution of PC games via Steam. Valve's approach is a bit Pot, Kettle, Black really.Matt_B wrote: The problem that it's trying to solve is that Microsoft are seeking to monopolize the online distribution of PC software via the Windows Store.

Re: SteamOS
Given that it's just Steam running on Linux and Steam has always required the online check, I'd say almost certainly. Piracy would just be way too easy otherwise.gman72 wrote:is this new steam console is going to require an online status check like the original plans for the Xbox One?

Re: SteamOS
"The nearly 3,000 games on Steam. Hundreds already running natively on the SteamOS, with more to come. The rest will work seamlessly via in-home streaming." And therein lies the fundamental flaw with the whole idea. If you were to go out and buy a SteamOS PC (because it is essentially still a PC) it...

TBH it has *way* more to do with the attitude of 90% of people using Linux than anything technical and that's never likely to go away.Prof Mango B Coconut wrote:There's no technical reason why things couldn't just work in Linux as easily as they do with Windows,

Re: Re:
Would be interesting to know what is fastest and smoothest of CPC+, C64 and Atari ST for typical C64-style shootemups. Probably still the C64, because it can scroll the background (i.e. the entire screen) in hardware, taking no time at all. It can only scroll eight pixels before having to reset the...

Re: worst designed console... functionally or aesthetically
The Jag's pad definitely has to put it up there, simply because it was designed in a time when everyone seemed to be trying to cram more buttons onto the controller and Atari, seemingly misunderstanding the concept, did so by seemingly just adding a phone keypad on there in a way that was largely un...

@joefish Ok mate, I understand. But please, can you find out any benchmark or something around the web and link them here? I mean about this: Your Commodore's CPU is slower than the ZX Spectrum by just about every way you could choose to measure it... If you google around enough you'll find the leg...

Re: Just Cause
Never really got into the first one, but loved JC2. Probably as much fun to be had just dicking around and/or going after the acheivements like flying under bridges or at low altitude for long periods of time as there was actually playing the proper missions. Don't think I ever got them all, but I d...

Re: Resident Evil - Simply the worst movie I have ever seen.
The Tomb Raider films were poor - though they did have a very nice Jolie in them! The stupid thing with the Tomb Raiders was that all they basically needed to do was follow the example set by the Indy films that the games were mimicking. Although given that even Lucas couldn't make another Indy may...

Re: Resident Evil - Simply the worst movie I have ever seen.
That was actually the second one on last night, not the original. It's always made more awkward by the fact they don't number them in the titles so you need to know the ordering based on the subtitle (Resident Evil with no subtitle followed by Apocalypse, then Extinction then Afterlife IIRC). They a...
