Re: Sections for Retro Gamer

For a bit of perspective, I remember when the very earliest retrogaming websites and fanzines (circa 1995) refused to cover 16-bit gaming, as it was basically current-day, and the 32-bit consoles were too recent and expensive for many people to have even bought yet. ;)

Re: Questions for Sandy 'Ant Attack' White

Bah, I found this thread a bit too late. I would've asked if D1ck Special (aka The Captain is Dead) was ever more than a few miscellaneous (mocked-up?) Amiga screenshots...

Super Play he definitely wrote for, too. The Sega magazine would be Mega or Sega Power, but I never read either, TBH.

Nope, CollectorLine 2000AD-size bags, bought from Forbidden Planet's online store in 2007 (they still stock exactly the same bags).

Re: Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

Hmm, might be that, yes.

Still, perhaps the bags didn't help matters. The tub where I hadn't gotten round to bagging the issues, the issues are in better condition than the bagged issues. Strange.

Maybe having bags but without acid-free backing boards was the problem?

Re: Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

I put a few silica gel pouches in the tubs, that is a trick I've learnt from one of my other nerdy hobbies. Doesn't seem to have worked here. :( Can we rule out the comic bags at this stage? They are branded ones. Or, perhaps they are designed to be used with the pH-neutral backing boards, and kill ...

Re: Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

What's mega-depressing is that the issues looked newsagent-fresh last time I checked.I made sure the issues were good condition, as you do seeing the £4.99 cover price. :(

The Super Plays going just makes me feel gutted too.

Re: Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

Under a metal-framed bed in a spare room. That's probably what caused it, I suspect. :(

What's 'odd' is that issues from April '06 seem just as damaged as ones from early last year, equally so.

Re: Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

Wait, it could be condensation inside the tubs? They aren't air-tight, so that's certainly possible. It's not in a damp room, but water does get everywhere. Every issue has the same CollectorLine branded 2000AD bags, so it's possible the bag might have caused it. But ... here's the crucial thing... ...

Retro Gamer issues and 2000AD comic bags = damage?

I have a collection of RG back issues going back to issue, err, whichever one had the Wil Overton Gremlin artwork in 2006. I got out a stack of really old issues this evening to have a read, all were stored in CollectorLine brand comic bags, called 2000AD bags because of the size. Checking them, pre...

Re: Games you wanted but never got?

Castlevania: Symphony of the Dark. Liked the idea of a 2D platformer, but a visually decent one, when 3D games had become the norm on consoles. For some reason, I never got around to purchasing it for exact reasons I can't remember. (Probably because of my Nintendo 64 focus at the time, I imagine). ...

Re: Super Nintendo collecting thread.

I managed to belatedly snag a SP Gold back in 2006, and it's not that good to be honest. Essential for completists, yes, but it's not all that well-written, and all the content is in the regular Super Play issues, either in identical or more well-written form.

Re: Super Nintendo collecting thread.

Two questions! 1.) Can I use Super NES pads (from a PAL console) with a Super Famicom? 2.) Can a Super Famicom play NTSC Super NES cartridges with modding/switching? Thanks. :) 1 - Yes, but not vice versa IIRC 2 - Yes, Super famicom will play USA SNES carts with no modification needed, but you will...
