Re: Wii U Owners Thread - Including User IDs

I bought a Wii U last week. I’d been humming and hawing about getting one for a while as I actually really like the lineup of games that’s out there for it. Definitely more there that there is for the other systems that interest me at least. Currently there’s not really much on Ps4 or XBone that are...

Re: How many of your consoles and computers broke?

My commodore 64 was a light fantastic pack. Had all sorts of trouble with it. The shop wasn’t sure what the issue was and first replaced the power pack, then the datasette before replacing the whole lot completely after weeks of arseing around. Was still utterly temperamental when it came to loading...

I'm seriously hoping Disney do ...

Re: Star Wars on DVD

The two disc versions from around '06/'07 had the original theatrical versions on the second disc. Han shoots first, no extra scenes, no disney style musical numbers etc etc. Incidentally the Return on the Jedi on the main disc for these versions is the one where they stuck in the Anakin form the ne...

No SCALEBACK, I have not...

Added to my reading list. Both look like potential good reads.

Thanks for that.

Re: Renting videotapes

I worked in the flagship store of a video rental/sales and music sales store back in the late 90’s while at college. Possibly one of the most fun Jobs I ever had. It was right at the beginning of DVD. I think there was about 10 or so titles, sell through only in the shop when I started. They didn’t ...

Re: Video Game sounds stuck in your head

Not a particular game but I got myself an old ZX Spectrum a few months back. I’d had one as a kid but had not actually had a go of an actual machine in nearly 25 years. First thing that stuck me was that click click sound it made when you typed. The whole sound of the primitive beeper is very nostal...

Re: Games that don't get the attention they deserve

I have copies of both Prey and Too Human in the pile of shame for the xbox 360. I got Prey back in 2007 and maybe sat down to play it once or twice and possibly got distracted by a string of other games cos I remember enjoying it. Too Human was a cheapo CEX purchase last xmas that got lost/forgotten...

Re: So what is your best FPS then?

Obviously there is the trinity of Wolfenstein - Doom - Quake which were essentially the same developers taking an idea and improving upon it with each iteration. I was absolutely gobsmacked the first time I saw each of them in action. It went from “oh wow fast moving 3D’ to “Oh wow there’s stairs” t...

Re: The best box art ever

http://gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Commodore_Amiga/Box/big/Dark_Seed_-_1992_-_Cyberdreams.jpg Darkseed’s box was the first thing that came to mind with me. For one it featured HR Giger’s artwork, but the packaging itself was also quite unique and unusual. The Main Box was wedge shaped with the thin...

Re: Every notable video game ever?

There’s a part of me that would love to just start again from the beginning and experience everything again like it was all new. I suppose I was lucky in the sense that I experienced a great chunk of things developing over the years, from the Vic-20 onwards anyway. Though in this day and age with th...

Re: The Great Video Game Crash

I’m open to correction here, but I the Amiga was primarily a full PC style desktop unit till the A500 which first came out in 1987, but I think it only really took off with the Batman pack which must have been about 1989 to coincide with the film? The 520st which had it's debut in 1985 would have be...

Re: Casio VL1 or similar keyboards

As well as being an accumulator of games consoles and games, I’m also a bit of an hoarder of music gear. Mainly groove boxes and gadgets. Currently loving the Korg range of analogue gadgets: the volcas and mono tribe. Though I am yet to venture into the terrifyingly nerdy realms of modular synths. I...

Re: Zoids Model Kits

Yep. I remember Linkits. I had a load of the kits too. A local department store had a massive stock of them and sold them all off cheap when they reached the end of the line. So I ended up with loads of them. Funny reading peoples online comments the same thing seems to be how most people ended up w...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I was just chuffed to get a handful of Jaguar games. They're not the easiest things to come by. Especially for a reasonable price. Over here in Dublin there wasn't that many stores that stocked them, what 20 odd years ago? So there wasn't that many of them here in the first place. Only got my consol...
