Re: Nintendo Gamecube will be 15 years old in September

The 10 years rule has had to change in recent times due to the Xbox 360 and PS3 having such long shelf lives. As a general rule this is how we look at the mag content now when we're planning issues (although it typically changes from month to month, particularly for 8 and 16 bit). PS3 Generation to...

Re: Play Expo Glasgow 11-12 June 2016

Feel like I should support this given its a 10 minute walk for me so dependent on how my 2-year-old decides my weekend schedule goes I'll have a look, hopefully on Saturday

Re: Worst controls in a game

Super Mario 64 DS. Especially jarring after the sublime feel of the original.
Tomb Raider. Not a new thing either, I thought that in 1996.
Wii Pro Evo. Seriously? Drawing lines?
Tetris on the CPC. Failing where hundreds of PD programmers succeeded.

Re: Top N64 games vote

Really hard to narrow this down to 5 so with all apologies due to Wave Race, Blast Corps, Goldeneye, Majoras Mask and Banjo-Kazooie.... 1. Mario 64. Obv. 2. Ocarina of Time. Obv. 3. F-Zero X. Pure racing. 4. Mario Golf. Because of how addicted I was to trying to 100% it. 5. Space station Silicon Val...

Re: The one time you had to admit you got it completely wron

It's not one time but in the space of a few months I told the same mate that Revenge of Shinobi, Desert Strike and Streets of Rage were censored and he shouldn't buy them.

21 years later and he still reminds me now and then.

Re: The most unfairly treated system/console

Again, I own a DC. I love the machine. It has some brilliant arcade ports. All I'm saying is that by 99/2000 the industry had moved on. A good arcade port was a system seller a decade before that but by then people wanted a different style of game, one that wasn't based on high-score chasing in fiv...

Re: The XBOX ONE / PS4 discussion thread

Ummm, price perhaps? The fact they tried to steamroller in a load of unpopular policies, expecting most gamers to just except what they were given as an example of arrogance? It seems to happen to every platform holder who has a spell of dominating or leading the way. Atari in the 80's Sega in the m...

Re: 3ds or vita?

Off-topic - registered my 3DS XL on Monday, how long does it usually take to get the email with the code? On-topic - personally I prefer the Vita. The console and controls are a perfect fit for my hands and the hardware has a lovely 'feel' to it. Games-wise yes it has a lot of ports but a lot of the...

Re: Best Mode 7 Games

Another vote for Contra 3 here.

Super Aleste also for backgrounds and some boss fights (IIRC)

Mario World also used it nicely for Koopa fights (again, IIRC)

Super Tennis was probably the worst use f it, panning the court around as the players changed ends

Re: First glimpse of Wii U controller in action

That's the thing... Nintendo aren't pandering to your wants, they're pandering to the kids wants.. I think a lot of 30 somethings find that hard to see, we had our time with the NES, SNES & GameBoy... all this social stuff isn't for you... it's for our kids.. Yeah that's fair enough, if it has game...

Re: First glimpse of Wii U controller in action

Still uninspired by all this. Even more so, in fact, with the Miiverse nonsense. Part of the reason I like my Wii so much is it's just about games. Me vs the game. This just seems to pander to the modern mentality that views life through the prism of what they can tweet about something and what pict...

Re: Sony PS3 - It never deserved its launch criticism

except I don't want that technology and I can't afford the price. That line says it all really, don't moan if you can't afford it :? You work for Sony's marketing department don't you? "But we put in loads of stuff people don't want and are charging them for it, why aren't they buying it? I DON'T U...

Re: Sony PS3 - It never deserved its launch criticism

I guess the real point is that regardless of what one or two individuals here think the majority of consumers worldwide seemingly considered PS3 to be overpriced for a games console at launch (especially so when considering what the competition were offering at the time) and stayed away in their dr...

Re: Sony PS3 - It never deserved its launch criticism

I agree with the statement that the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD is slight while the jump from VHS to DVD was massive. No comparing the 2 for me. The main leap from VHS to DVD was in accessibility. The improved picture was nice and everything, but IMHO a lot of people bought into it because o...

Re: Sony PS3 - It never deserved its launch criticism

90% of criticism was the price, for that it was rightfully slagged!! A Bluray player and a console, when a standalone player cost over £500, and you think they were rightly slagged? Sorry, but logically that makes no sense, as they were essentially SAVING people money who were interested in both th...
