XRGB - anyone have any experience with this?

I'm looking to play my PAL PS2 games on my HD TV, but most look crap even through component (my TV doesn't have a SCART socket). The XRGB Mini upscaler costs a fair whack, but it seems like the best bet. I live in Japan and have a small apartment, so I don't have the space for a CRT TV, nor the incl...

Re: Best "beat-em-up" series?

Streets of Rage.

I don't agree that the genre is extinct though, it's merely evolved. Its DNA can definitely be seen in the likes of Yakuza, God of War, Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

Final Fantasy X-2 US Code wanted

Hey guys, long shot this, but here goes. I bought FF X/X2 from Amazon. Its the European version but I have an American PSN account, so the download code for X2 doesn't work. If anyone out there is in a similar situation (but the other way around region-wise, obviously) then I would love to trade. I'...

Re: Hard RPG's?

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls would be obvious choices. Speaking of Lucifer's Call, most of the Megaten games can be punishingly unfair if you don't bring along the right demons to the boss fights.

Re: Annoying/bad things in great games.....

The lack of VATS in Skyrim. Everything in Dead Rising that isn't killing zombies. Waaaaaht??!!!! VATS is great but even in Fallout it kinda becomes obselete for high level builds (IMO). Skyrim deffo doesn't need it (again IMO). IMO, Archery is pointless without it, especially if you're playing on c...

KOTOR on iPad

Came out a couple of days ago, and it's awesome. The touchscreen is actually perfect for this game. £6.99 is pretty steep for an iOS game but this is worth every penny. What are the chances of a fully patched up sequel (actually I'd take any old release of the sequel, but one can dream)?

Re: PAL/NTSC Converter - Advice needed!

Again apologies for bumping this old thread, but I wanted to say that I bought a PAL to NTSC converter for about £20, made by Etekcity. It works far better than I ever expected, with no noticeable lag or picture quality deterioration. Result!

Re: Which game have you put the most hours into?

I've played through Persona 3 Portable one and a half times, so that works out to about 140 hours. I've put the same into Skyrim. However, I must've put 200+ hours into FIFA 2004, because I played through about 13 seasons straight on the manager mode. There was no clock for that though so I'll never...

Retro gamer Youtube special

Hey folks, I seem to remember that retro gamer had a feature on YouTube channels a while back (probably a few years ago now). Unfortunately I chucked all my old copies out during a move so I can't check, so does anyone know which issue it was? If I find out I can download a copy from Newstand. Graci...

Re: What are some of the "Must Have" Saturn games?

Donpachi Dodonpachi Layer Section Guardian Heroes Also there's a game called Nekketsu Oyako - Hot Blooded Family which is Final Fight style side scrolling beat-em-up that might be the most bonkers game I've ever played. You get beer as health pick ups, but you can't collect them if your character is...

Re: PC games, KB/Mouse or gamepad?

If I'm playing a game on a PC it was probably designed for a mouse and keyboard. I've bought a few games from GOG, such as POP: Sands of Time, Dreamfall and Beyond Good and Evil that don't have controller support, yet were clearly designed for controllers. Trying to play them with a mouse and keyboa...

Re: PAL/NTSC Converter - Advice needed!

Apologies for bumping this old thread but I thought I should report my results, just in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation. I bought an expensive SCART cable, returned to Japan and realised that my TV didn't have a SCART socket. Turns out SCART isn't really used in Japan. What's more...

Re: Has anyone here owned an Open Pandora

It sounds like it was pretty great 3 years ago when people placed their orders. Dunno about now though. I really doubt it's worth the potential hassle, see this cautionary tale:
