I'll be there on Sunday.
If you see a guy wearing a black hoodie with c64 loading pictures on it then come over and say hi.

Re: NERG - north east retro gaming event!
I went on Sunday and had a great time! I must admit I only heard about the event a week beforehand, which made it a bit of a rush to get organised to go. The event was amazing - plenty of room to move around, and lots of my favourite classic arcade games to play. It's all very well being able to pla...

Re: PLAY EXPO (formerly Replay), 13-14 October 2012, Manches
A big thank-you to all those that made the event possible! An even bigger thank-you to all the arcade cab collectors who preserved and restored all those classic arcade games, then took the time and immense trouble to bring them to the show for us to play on (with all the risks that entails for brea...

Re: PLAY EXPO (formerly Replay), 13-14 October 2012, Manches
Got back earlier. Loved the selection of arcade machines - was chuffed to get a decent high score on Mr Do, only to come back later to see my score was utterly demolished.  I was disappointed that all the talks got cancelled - apparently it was due to the people supplying the sound sys...

If anyone from Sheffield or nearby would like a lift I'll be driving in on Sunday with an empty car.

I've booked my tickets
Taking the family on Saturday, then back on my own on Sunday.
Might drive over, so if anyone from Sheffield wants a lift on Sunday I'll have some spare seats.

I've always got my trusty swiss-army knife on me. I shan't bore you with the story of how I saved the day using it to repair a PC at the 1995 Milia expo in Cannes. (This really happenedresident paul wrote: You might be ending up repairing a couple of machines so keep your pocket knife ready!

Re: Space shooters
I remember Warhead on the Amiga being a bit of a time-sink for me. Warhead, along with Subwar 2050 can be considered to be one of the 'parents' of the I-War space games, as it was written by Glyn Williams. He and Subwar's creator Michael Powell co-designed and developed I-War and its sequel. I was ...

Re: Did the SNES deserve better?
I think one of the issues facing developers with the SNES back then was the high cost of the cartridges. Several games I worked on started off as 8mbit carts, but due to reasons had to be cut down to 4mbit carts because the 8mbit ones were so expensive to buy from Nintendo. Adding a DSP (like in Mar...

Re: Ballblazer/Masterblazer memories.
The Atari 800 version was amazing when it first came out. It's still graphically much faster and smoother and more impressive than the C64 version, and the sound was better too. I did the graphics for an obscure SNES game that was intended originally to be Ballblazer 2, but the licensing deal fell t...

Re: Which consoles have you sold but now wish you had kept
Not a console, but I regret selling my mint condition ZX81, boxed with all the manuals, leads and a Memotek 16k RAM pack. I sold it for £25 around 1983 so I could get a C64. It'd be worth a lot more than that these days! Luckily I bought a ZX81 off someone for £5 a few years later. It's not in very ...

Re: Game Bug testing
I've done games testing, and have managed a test team at one point in my career. Companies put enormous resources into testing. No games company deliberately wants to release buggy games. However games are extremely complex, and bugs will happen. You can write a 10 line program which has over 100,00...

Re: Best/most memorable Arcade
It's hard to imagine how omniprescent arcade games were back in the 80's. Everyone had them - arcades, chippies, pubs and record shops. The arcade I most remember was was a record shop I used to visit when I was in the 6th. form at school (1982). It had a small backroom with several arcade machines....
