Hey, I live there, it must be the center of the country, if not the entire universe ;)

In any case, the points above remain :P

Re: Big Charity/Community Retro Event, 23-24 March, Sheffiel

Because travelling and staying in hotels is expensive, excuse me for not having a massive disposable income  The fact is that Oxford (RetroVision) was near enough that I didn't have to book a hotel, same with Video Game Carnival. Likewise there are loads of people here who live in the north t...

Re: External Hard Drive disaster, please help!!!

First and foremost: do not do anything which changes anything on the USB hard drive. The less you do to it, the better a chance you have of recovering data. (it sounds like you've accidentally formatted the drive; this should be recoverable if nothing on the drive changes) Second: get a disk-recover...

Re: Why weren't Arcade quality games in homes during the 80'

Just hang on a minute! Chiptune has a point. Sega for example were making consoles AND arcade games. So WHY the heck did they make an 8-bit machine to begin with when the technoloy WAS there to start with at least a 16-bit machine? Well, to quote meself... :D Sega Master system: $200 (approx. $420 ...

Re: Why weren't Arcade quality games in homes during the 80'

Neo Geo was basically the same board that the arcade machine ran only plugged into a home system. Ironically, a lot of the time it was because the arcade manufacturers did not supply much help to the teams doing the computer conversions. It was only later as test modes became standard and home comp...

Re: Why weren't Arcade quality games in homes during the 80'

I think you've answered your own question there  It's all down to cost. This forum posting has some indicative numbers, including a link to some of Atari's internal cost breakdowns; the quote for Missile Command is $970 - and this is for the parts only, so doesn't include assembly, shipping, ta...

Re: The Greatest Gaming Moments Of All Time

Epic game moments for me included... Star Control 2 This is a pretty epic game in and of itself; among other things, it had some pretty well realised alien races that you could converse with . At one point in the game, you have to trick one alien race into attacking another. You can even watch this ...

Re: Replay Expo 2011 - Official Thread

Blimey, where'd November go? Anyhow, having run through the post-show feedback to date, here's my penny's worth... (though first, to set the context: I was one of the "official" photographers wandering around the show - a subset of the photos are on Facebook and a DVD with all the photos/videos I to...

Re: In Da 80s at The Lass O'Gowrie 16th-17th July

Oh, and one other thing: I'm in the process of purging some 80s computer magazines - Sinclair User, etc. Most are in decent nick, some are in fair-to-poor condition; all are readable and it'd be a shame to just take them for recycling. So... is anyone interested in claiming them (i'll try and give a...

Its on a bus route that drops you off just down the street from the pub and round the corner from the venue
I'll be heading to the JP gig (together with a friend) - having a bus there will be handy :)
