Wishing our own 'Big K' all the best for his recovery, and hoping he is back up and at 'em soon enough.
But to the editor, could someone not have penned something relevant to homebrew to fill the gap in the meantime?

Re: From The Forum issue 183 - Tetris: Best puzzler ever?
Nope. Got to be Buzzsaw+ (Box Deluxe Mix) on the Spectrum. This is a completely independent and unbiased opinion, of course. :D :D :D Seriously though, I like Tetris , but have rather had my fill of it over the years. Personally I think Puzzle Bobble is probably one of the best alternatives out the...

Re: Change one thing?
My top gripe with the Spectrum is that the 128K really should have had the option of the extra graphics mode that Timex added to their Spectrum variant, with 8x1 colour attributes instead of 8x8. It costs very little to implement in the ULA as it just re-uses the pixel address counter for colours (w...

Issue 182 missing something?
Did someone forget to put the freebie SEGA sticker sheet in the outgoing subscriber copies, or just mine?
I got the MegaDrive mini-book, but no stickers that I can find.

Re: Gaming elements that annoy you.
I hate the escort missions too. Just Cause 2 had some terrible ones where the guy you're supposed to keep alive keeps running out in front of a gattling gun. Although in places the free-roaming nature of the game would let you mess with the neatly scripted events  One I remember had a choke...

Re: Your go-to MAME games
A lot of variety in this list! And it reminds me, I haven't played Mappy in a while. Nor Time Pilot or Sky Kid Deluxe . Though they're great games I'm more into later stuff with better 2D graphics. My go-tos are usually Space Harrier and R-Type . I also like a bit of Trigon , and Midnight Wanderers ...

Re: 30 years of CITV
Actually, yes, they did. The very last show Ant & Dec did for CITV featured a viewer's vote that ended in all the presenters and guest bands joining in a performance of Let's Get Ready to Rhumble.greenberet79 wrote:I'm not sure of this "Ant and Dec" you speak of.
Did PJ and Duncan make an appearance on it?

Re: From The Forum issue 165 - Worst jump from 2D to 3D
I think Sonic was the biggest disappointment. Lemmings and Worms flat-out didn't work with the primitive environmental modelling of the time, and the new camera view didn't suit those game types at all. Earthworm Jim , Castlevania , Alundra and a load of others jumped to 3D before the technology was...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 164
I liked the piece on Top Ten, but I thought it overdid the praise for all their games, when a couple of them (e.g. Dawnssley) were proper stinkers.

Re: First home game u played that was closest 2 arcade quali
I think pre-rendered works OK if: (a) there was a decent designer involved in the first place (b) the art design is consistent across all sprites and backgrounds (c) the lighting of the models isn't so directional that it's obvious when a sprite is drawn in the 'wrong place' compared to its neighbou...

Re: First home game u played that was closest 2 arcade quali
Pre-rendered on really snes doesn't look good, but like I said i'm not a fan of the technique anyway. You could start a thread of Arcade Games that look like crap shareware knock-offs based on that! I remember the first time I saw a Prehistoric Isle 2 arcade machine and thinking 'Wow, there's a seq...

Re: Best vehicles in games
HALO's Warthog is a lot of fun to drive, and also to man the gun turret while a second player drives.
Also loved the Desert Fox from XBox Crimson Skies - fast and manoeverable with neat weapons.

Re: First home game u played that was closest 2 arcade quali
Probably when I got New Zealand Story on the Atari ST. It's not arcade-perfect by quite a way - the screen clearly still has borders and a fixed score panel. But it was the first time I was playing a game with proper hi-res coloured sprites, colourful scrolling backgrounds (instead of mostly black s...
