Re: Beat em Ups / Brawlers
Megadrive Sailor Moon I know Teped Snake will disagree with me on this:) Haha, indeed I do! The first SNES one is probably worse though (I swear the thing is so slow it takes about 2 seconds to load each boss encounter ! That shouldn't happen on a SNES!) I think pretty much all my suggestions (Unde...

Re: Bleak moments in games
At the end of Splatterhouse (Arcade) the mansion is destroyed, your girlfriend is dead (apparently) and the mask you used to survive breaks off your face, so you basically get nothing except survival. Then the credits roll to sombre music. Global Defense Force (PS2) tries to add a sense of helplessn...

Re: Gun games the best and the worst
Point Blank 1 & 2 (Namco) Great games and lots of fun to play :) Yeah, I spent a lot of my childhood on Point Blank 1, could never get into 2, though 3 is an improvement. Out of curiosity, whcih version of 2 did you play- PS1 or arcade? Something I only found out a few years ago is that the PS1 ver...

Re: Gun games the best and the worst
Sega and Namco's light-gun games are among the best- Time Crisis, Point Blank 1 & 2 (Namco), The House of the Dead 2, Ghost Squad and Gunblade N.Y. (Sega) are firm favourites. Also really enjoyed Die Hard 2 on Die Hard Trilogy. The worst that comes to mind is Silent Hill: The Arcade- it's amazingly ...

Re: Kirby TV Channel (Wii)
It's a free channel to download to your Wii Menu that lets you watch the Kirby TV series for free, but with a rotating schedule that shows only four episodes (plus the first one) at any one time. Wrote a little bit about it over at RetroCollect this morning. Not sure what to make of the show itself-...

Re: Silliest Game Character Name?
Lavitz Slambert from Legend of Dragoon. Medicine Melancholy from Pahntasmagoria of Flower View. Eat Wow from King of the Monsters 2 (renamed Lavicus for Western releases). Mars People and their leader Rootmarks from Metal Slug 2/3. Quiffy from Flood (apparently he was almost called Smelly, but they...

Re: Dragon's Crown (PS3)
Yes, this one seemed to slip by everyone at E3! Might be worth checking out the Twitter account for high-quality art and more info. This is basically a sequel/homage to the two arcade Dungeons & Dragons scrolling brawlers from Capcom released in the nineties (one of the founders of Vanillaware worke...

Re: Games released with different names in different regions
I wonder if this happens the other way? Anyone know any western games in Japan with different names? One example I can think of is the Oddworld series: Abe's Oddyssey was renamed Abe a Go Go Abe's Exodus was renamed Abe '99 One notable name-change (well, more like a localisation) is SNK's Guevara (...

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!
Here are four sites I recommend: Magweasel - This is, in fact, the best gaming blog on the entire internet, the writer is a freelance translator who catalogues weird Japanese gaming stuff, like Super Mario Bros. guides and electromechanical arcade games. Consider it essential if you're a PC Engine f...

Re: SNK volume 0 PSP
Shame the original Vanguard isn't on it. Vanguard will be getting a separate PS3/PSP Minis release instead, if the ESRB is to be trusted . My copy arrived today from eBay, for £20 (cheap because it's a 'Korea Only' version, but I wasn't paying £30+ for this, as much as I like SNK). This particular ...

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
This absolutely won't happen, but I'd be more interested if, for offline play, they let you pick which revision of the game to play (in other words, if they let you do the Ver. 2.1 Babality glitches in MKII ). In any case, I'm guessing this is what happened to that Mortal Kombat HD Kollection thing....

Re: What are you currently playing?
Is that an official release? Wouldn't mind giving MFF a go on the ol' GBA myself :) It is, but it was only released in the US, if that helps you find it. I don't think there was a Japanese release, though. As for me... NIN-2 JUMP (360) - Finished gathering the rest of the achievements today. A smal...

Re: Best MAME Shmups ?
What is odd is, I'm sure we used to play this as an arcade game at Uni in 2-player co-op mode, and there was an extra beam weapon you could get that was strung between the two ships. But MAME doesn't seem to want to support two players. The World/US version, Lightning Fighters, has some changes reg...
