Re: Paid for 'free gifts'

We go back to the original price point whenever we add a significant extra to the magazine, like a supplement or a cover disc... and we have more planned for coming issues. I I prefer the supplements myself, though I expect audio CDs have a greater impact on sales. I hope there are more game mag tr...

Re: Just found a load of 1989 - 1990 Kerrang and Metal Hammer mags

This feels like group therapy. Hi, I'm Knightbeat and I have issues! Several piles of them, in fact.

Can someone post a photo of the subs cover? I thought the retail cover looked superb (saw it on facebook).
There's a decent photo of it on this ebay auction:

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188

I do like the calendar! If you want to hang it, use a hole punch to put holes wherever you want. It's not even a holy calendar? Tssk. I guess I'll have to look at the Nightmare of Santa Claus and Chillout games ad for some festive cheer  I've only just started reading the issue but it looks fa...

We've already done a Nights Christmas cover for issue 45. It had glitter on it and everything.
Disturbingly, issue 45 was 11 years ago, at which point the Saturn version of Nights was just over 11 years old!

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188

Dizzy - although Dizzy seems to pop up multiple times, I still love the games. Great read. Dizzy tends to get a lot of coverage in Codemaster retrospectives but there have been surprisingly few features dedicated to his eggcellent games. The RG Index lists only 7 Dizzy items in the past 14 years: R...

Re: GamesMaster and gamestm magazines closing, your thoughts?

I disagree that there haven't been any good bookazines. The 1970s/80s/90s retro culture mags were great, though a bit lightweight in places. I'd buy a monthly/bimonthly mag on this topic if it offered more in-depth coverage. I notice the new Retro Gamer Annual is also available in WH Smith, along wi...

Re: Magazine Quality - Latest issue

Maybe it is a batch thing as some people seem to be able to tell and some others can't? I travel a lot and often spot different batches, each with their own unique problem. Some batches are printed using different paper (which can feel like photocopier paper), others contain print errors on certain...

Re: Bookazines or lack of.

I spotted a copy of Ultimate Retro Hardware Guide and the Games to Play before you Die specials in the Nuneaton WH Smith earlier. URHG takes a similar approach to the hardware handbook - it contains hardware articles and a number of the 2 page photo spreads from recent issues - but doesn't share any...

Re: Bookazines or lack of.

Is there actually any new content in the "100 games" one I wonder? Also the price has skyrocketed.. £15.99 inc delivery. It's also as I said above a deviation from any sort of "branding" again. And I can envisage a yearly "revised edition" to take in to account new games. Not sure on this one. :? T...

I'm starting to feel paranoid that this thread is a clever marketing ploy!

Re: Retro Gamer issue 182

There's nothing wrong with taking a break. RG has published almost as many issues as Crash & Zzap combined. It can get boring to read about the same topic each month. I suspect RG will outlive its readership, even die-hard collectors. We'll all be defeated by lack of space, lack of funds, loss of in...

Re: Retro Gamer issue 180

RG's twitter feed contains a photograph of the latest edition, which I assume is the newsstand edition. The subs edition looks much better in my opinion.

Can you embed a tweet on this forum? I feel guilty for linking directly to the image.

Re: Retro Gamer 172 - With Super Play Magazine

Issue 9 in 2004 Your Sinclair Tribute. Issue 18 in 2005 Zzap! 64. Issue 100 in 2012 Retro Gamer 1. Issue 172 in 2017 Super Play 48. I can't believe it's has been 21 years since the last issue of Super Play. Your SInclair had been closed for 11 years and Zzap! 64 for 12 1/2 years when their tribute ...
