Re: Need help identifying an old computer

Now, this is a complete random thought, but if Tasco were behind optical devices, might it be possible that they licenced out the Vic 20 design for use in hospitals and opticians as an early way of keeping track of patient records...? It would certainly explain why there's no information on it online.

Re: Need help identifying an old computer

The first thought might be that you're mis-remembering it and thinking of the TRS-80 (also known as a Tandy 2000), but a quick websearch shows it looks nothing like the Vic 20.

It may well have been a clone machine - or a re-branded Vic-20 for a foreign market.

To me it just sounds like the Playstation was likely just reading the wrong sound sample for some reason.

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

I made my first gaming purchase in months - a flash cartridge for the old Game Boy / Game Boy Color. It'll let me take the GB on trips without having to take a bag full of games with me. It's just a little idosyncratic in regards to save states that'll take some getting used to.

Re: Quick Reference Guide to Retro Metroidvania/Platform Adventure Games

Looking at your list of games, there's a couple that don't belong - Delta Force for example has no metroidvania or platform adventure aspects at all and has no backtracking at all. At best it's an open-world tactical shooter (and even then if one enemy is alerted, every enemy on the level becomes al...

Re: Quick Reference Guide to Retro Metroidvania/Platform Adventure Games

You may want to include Aliens : Infestation on the Nintendo DS - the metroid games (which are a contributer to the phrase "Metroidvania") were heavily influenced by the Alien franchise and - while short - is a great example of the metroidvania style of games.

Re: From the Forum - Issue 207: Lockdown gaming

I'm on too many classic games to list - but I do plan in investing some practice time into Super Mario Kart - even though it's looking likely that the Play Expo Glasgow might not happen due to the lockdown - I've taken part in their yearly Super Mario kart tournaments (even though I never actually p...

Re: Is there a way to get the old Windows games on a modern PC?

I've actually kept my old XP system because most of the games I still have don't like working with my newer Windows 10 PC. Just because it's "obsolete technology" by many peoples' standards doesn't mean it isn't useful.

Re: Are these knockoff disks? 3.5" Floppy PC Games

Sometimes games get released as budget titles with very basic labels on the discs. I'm guessing that with Doom being just 2 floppies that it's the freeware version where they included the entire first episode (a third of the full game)

I answered on the twitter feed - but it's only nostalgia if you actually stopped playing the games which are now deemed "Retro" at some point.

Re: Best DS in 2019?

As others have said, a DS Lite is probably the best all-rounder you can get thanks to the GBA slot - but if you're not afraid of homebrew methods, you should be able to emulate most of them on any of the DSi or 3DS lines - but you'll need to look elsewhere for information on homebrewing those systems.

Re: Just been given a 2DS XL

I came across this video on youtube which seemingly generates a master key for you so that you can get around the parental controls lock.

I've admittedly not tested this so I can't vouch for how reliable it is.
