No Adjective Required

Reading some recent threads on the forum has led me to realise one or two things - first and foremost is that I'm not a Retro Gamer, because I love my Xbox 360! I'm not a Current-Gen Gamer either, because I own and love Spectrums, Megadrives, SNESes and Black and White Game Boys. I'm not a Hardcore ...

Heh, just sold my Sam on ebay. Got £200 for it. Happy with that (but sad to see the little fella go...)

Re: Hot Topic - Best Dizzy game

Fantasy World Dizzy was my favourite by a long way. The sampled speech at the start of the Spectrum version was gobsmacking at the time.

Re: From the forum question Issue 75

I liked 720 Degrees, with that funny roundy round (technical term) joystick and the terrifying "SKATE OR DIE!" announcement that had me running for a fresh pair of undies. Killer bees have never been so scary - and killer bees are bloody scary anyway!

Re: Best John Romero Game

Isn't it amazing what a difference one weapon can make? Add a double barrelled shotgun to Doom and you get the best of the early FPSes - by a long way! I was never all that struck on Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D always felt like a bit of a "work in progress", with the Doom games being what they would h...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 74

I seem to remember a friend owning some long rectangularish joysticks with a very small stick. I assume they were analogue because the travel on the stick was ludicrously long. And I think the buttons were small and green ovals. I think he used them on a BBC Micro, but I might be misremembering that...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 74

I was always a bit reluctant to use autofire... it felt too like cheating. I'd still enter codes for infinite lives, invincibility, better weapons though... what a hypocrite!

Re: From the Forum question for issue 74

I certainly like the look of the Dreamcast Arcade Stick, particularly the one in the second picture. That certainly looks nicer than the other three...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 74

I had many 'sticks during my Atari ST days, but the clear winner was the Powerplay Cruiser. They did a special edition in all black which solved the problem of its otherwise girly colours. It also had a slightly flattened "bobble" on the end of the stick, rather than the usual rounded one, which was...

MGT Sam Coupé for sale

Hi all, I've got a Sam Coupe listed for sale on Ebay... It's boxed and in working order... This was a Spectrum clone which offered graphics to rival an Atari ST. It was on sale from 1989 to 1993 I believe. Take a peek at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280464898565#ht_640wt_1165...

Re: Favourite Neo Geo Games

I never really got into the whole Neo-Geo thing (other than always claiming to be "getting one for Christmas" to my mates, just to big myself up), but I do remember putting lots of 50ps in to play Soccer Brawl, even though heading home and playing Speedball 2 would have been more enjoyable and cheap...

My favourite has to be Match Day 2. I also loved the Ocean stand at computer shows; they were huge and gave out free pens. I like free pens.

Re: Forgoten Fighting games

How about Street Fighter II: The Movie: The Game (I assume that was what they - rather untidily - called it) - a Mortal Kombat-esque digitised version of SFII using the characters from the film (Van Damme, Kylie Minogue et al). The controls were much like the regular SFII but much less responsive an...
