Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

I've been messing about with this Amstrad Mode 1 mock-up in Microsoft Paint for a while.

Looks a bit drab admittedly, but then it does take place in a castle.

Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

Sorry, I was pretty rude with that post.

Great find on the Edge article, its nice to have a direct Oliver Twins quote.

Every time I've mentioned this in the past, starting with "but it doesn't make sense because...." I've been shot down.

Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

I can't believe people are still propagating that nonsense about Dizzy being designed for Amstrad, all you need to do is look at the resolution to see which computer it was designed for (let alone the fact that the CPC versions actually run with the most slowdown, have fewer colours etc).

Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

Converted for inflation (I hope I did this right)

1984

Spectrum 48k £130 = ~£360 in today's money
Spectrum+ £180 = ~£500 in today's money

Amstrad 464 & black and white monitor £250 = ~£700 in today's money
Amstrad 464 & colour monitor £360 = ~£1000 in today's money

Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

I googled for a while, and the numbers I found seems to confirm this. If the Atari beat the Amstrad, it was close. This made me wonder why did the Atari 8-bit range have so little impact on the gaming world. These Atari machines were very niche, they weren't even that popular in the US to be honest...

Re: spectrum

well i dont have any nostalgia so practicality wil be the way to go Its not really about nostalgia IMO Its more about form vs function. If you just want to play games then a +2 is probably the way to go, but you'll be missing out on what makes the Spectrum what it is. I don't think that anyone coul...

Re: Speccy VS C64 VS CPC

The Spectrum was best for the early to mid 80s.
The Commodore was best for the mid to late 80s.
The CPC was best if you wanted to do 50/50 work/gaming.

Re: "wii u dead already"

Well, the 'Basic' console can now be bought for around £200 or less and it's marginally more powerful than PS360 (weaker CPU, better GPU, double the RAM) so that sounds "competitive with PS3 and 360" to me. Marginally more powerful, but with a smaller hard drive than the weakest PS3 (which is curre...

Re: "wii u dead already"

Nope. Nintendo announced at the time of the Wii U launch that they'd be making a financial loss on each console sold. Wow, ok Its shocking that with even 6 years more to design the system Nintendo couldn't create something competitive with PS3 and 360  I guess the tablet (which absolutely no...

Re: "wii u dead already"

I wouldn't worry too much about the Wii-U yet, to be honest the system seems to be hugely overpriced to me at the moment, and there's not exactly much notable software either, Nintendo must have a lot of room to maneuver in regards to price I would've thought, they're just trying to get away with ra...

Re: Awful 16-bit Platformers

Magic Pockets wasn't even good for 10 minutes, it was a painfully slow, painfully tedious game with uninspired level designs all built on a foundation of badly thought out game play mechanics. I would say the opposite for Gods, that game was boring for the 1st 10 minutes but when you realised it was...

Re: Awful 16-bit Platformers

Plok is one of the best platformers on SNES. Does all the genre staples well and adds a lot of variety and inventive game play elements and puzzles on top of that, with a bunch of secrets and charm included for good measure. One of my friends gets pretty annoyed with me when I even make out the Mari...
