Re: Retro Rewind (Sheffield) April 10th and 11th 2010

Aarrgh. Anyone got Rock Band? Or at least the drum kit an mike they can bring along, dropped the ball on this one, b0llocks! I got RB...but no transport to bring any kit unfortunately. Can bring the mic (and will also bring Lego RB, Singstar, and the wireless mics too in case of emergency). Won't b...

Re: Sega Sc-3000 & Sharp Mz-700

Getting a 'Perfect Ten' together for the MZ-700 would be quite a feat, I should imagine. It would have to include Firefox (a Scramble clone) and Wizards Castle (which kept me addicted for quite some time). Which reminds me, I need to dig out all my Sharp stuff and give it a test run before next mon...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 74

My Quickshot 2 Turbo - "Home-built-Frankenstein edition" This one of a kind masterpiece was crafted from the remains of 3 other QS2 joysticks, and became stronger than any of them ever were. I built it from spare parts from 2 of my own sticks, and one of a mates, back in my Speccy days. It then went...

Re: Dexter

Yeah, seasons 4 and 5 were greenlit at the same time (unlike earlier seasons when it was comissions one at a time), so the writers knew they could really play around with the ending to craft a great cliffhanger, and also leave a few things hanging. I've read the first three book (not got around the ...

Re: Dexter

Certainly have, and I was in a similar state of shock (and, I confess, some tears welling up) at the ending of the series. I kind of knew what was going to happen, and had discussed it with one of the guys at work. I got most of it right, but didn't see 'that' final moment! Lithgow was amazing in th...

Re: OLd tv show help

I remember watching the first episode and being very critical of the geography of it (it was set in Sheffield, so I kept pointing out errors they made). Favourite one was at the start one of the characters is supposedly heading to catch the train which will take them to Sheffield, and behind him as ...

Re: OLd tv show help

It was definitely shown on ITV as I didn't have Sky or cable when it was on in 1999. Think it has been repeated a few times on Sci-Fi, but not seen it recently.

Trivia time: It was written by Matthew Graham, whom most people will know as the creator of Life on Mars.

Re: Dr Who Xmas/New Year Special

Well I thought it was the lowest ebb in this run of Who. When RTD re-launched Who with Ecclestone it was great. He made the show new and fresh, but also kept in line with established Who lore. From season 3 onwards he began to lose it totally (it was around the time that he kept using the phrease 'm...

No worries matey. Have a good Christmas (and looking out the window it looks set to be a white one in Sheffield).

Re: What are you going to eat for christmas dinner?

As usual, it is my job to cook this christmas. Thus we will be having grilled salmon steaks in a lemon and herb sauce with roast potatoes, parsnips, mixed-veg, and grated cheese. No sprouts will be anywhere nearby!

Re: What Films Have you Watched Recently?

Watched Avatar (in 3D) yesterday. It's alright, but nothing worth rewatching. All the hype about how it will push the limits of the genre, and do things that haven't been done before were all nonsense. Nothing in it is particularly new, nor is it as spectacular as, say, The Matrix was when that came...

Re: Issue 71 Feedback Thread

As someone who gets absolutely fed up of the deluge of tinsel, red hats, and terrible music that this time of year always brings, the lack of a Christmas feel cover was a relief! :D Just finished an immersive session of reading of the mag. I think the fact that I usually spend a week reading a secti...

Re: From the Forum question for issue 72

How do you narrow it down to just one? Can I at least narrow it down to the Forgotten Realms series (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights)? But then I'd deny myself the pleasure of having Planescape: Torment as my top choice! Or the Beholder series!

Re: Retro Rewind 2010

Suffice to say I will be making a full weekend of it, with plenty to drink. Handy living a short distance from Sheffield city center :) Also going to bring my eldest along (he's 7 and loves playing console games. About time he learnt the way of the Retro!) in the afternoon on the first day. Then the...
